School board filing beginsThe Lawrence County Clerk's Office began accepting petitions for those wishing to run for a position on a county school board on Tuesday.
In order to petition, the candidate must reside and be a registered voter in the school district. Petitions can be filed through this coming Tuesday at noon.
Any potential candidate must have 20 valid signatures of registered voters in the school district for which they are running.
Airfield Road listed on registerThe Walnut Ridge Army Airfield Access Road at College City in Lawrence County is one of nine properties that have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the country's official list of historically significant properties, Arkansas Historic Preservation Program Director Frances McSwain has announced.
The Walnut Ridge Army Airfield Access Road, roughly bounded by U.S. Highway 67 and the junction of Fulbright Avenue and Stafford Lane, is a two-lane concrete highway constructed under the National Defense Highway Act of 1941.
LawCo. Courthouse new roof underwayThe Lawrence County Courthouse in Walnut Ridge is in the process of getting a new rubber roof installed through funds awarded after it was named to the National Register of Historic Places.
The county received a $130,000 grant, which will be used to aid in repairing the roof. The new roof, which will receive the recommended rubber installation over the hot tar method used previously, will cost between $300,000 and $400,000, according to County Judge Dale Freeman.
