A win-win
always good

It is great news that Tractor Supply Co. will be locating one of its retail stores in a large portion of the former Walmart building on Hwy. 67B North in Walnut Ridge.

As Walmart stores went from leasing their buildings to building their own, many former Walmart buildings have been left vacant. As Fran Cavenaugh, executive director of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce said, Tractor Supply is taking an old building and rehabbing it and bringing it back to life. Both Cavenaugh and Mayor Charles Snapp see Monday's announcement as just one of several expected in the coming weeks.

Pictures of the Past

In March of 1972, Sam Walton, president of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., announced that his organization would build a Wal-Mart Discount City in Walnut Ridge. The grand opening of Store #57 was in October 1972, and it served at this location on Highway 67 North until a new Wal-Mart was built on Highway 412 West 20 years later in 1992. This week, officials announced that a new Tractor Supply Co. store would be located in the old Wal-Mart building.
