Hoxie Job Stimulus Committee
focuses efforts on vacant building

Megan Heyl
Staff Writer

The Hoxie Job Stimulus Committee discussed what options remain on the vacant building that used to house a Save-A-Lot grocery store during its May 10 meeting. Mayor Lanny Tinker said he has reached out to every grocery chain in Arkansas and a few out-of-state chains as well, but hasn't been able to reach a deal.

"I have gotten nowhere on a grocery store," Tinker said.

The committee reviewed prices for advertising the building in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. They voted to run the ad three times to get the discounted rate. The ads will cost approximately $945. If no inquiries are received on the ad, then the city will look into hiring a commercial realty firm to market the building.

Committee member Charlie Cook recommended looking into ways to advertise the building online as well.

They also discussed the need to review the insurance coverage of the building, which is likely over insured for what the building is valued at.
