Bobcats are district champions

A four-run first inning provided Walnut Ridge with all the runs they would need as the Bobcats coasted to a 9-1 win over the host Midland Mustangs in the championship game of the 2A-2 District Baseball Tournament on May 3 in Pleasant Plains.

Walnut Ridge got the scoring underway in the bottom of the first inning when Preston Aaron hit into a fielder's choice, allowing Will Weir to score from third. Next, Colin Phillips drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Cats ahead 2-0. Drake Smith followed with a two-RBI single to give Walnut Ridge a 4-0 advantage.

After the teams traded single runs in the second and third innings, Walnut Ridge put the game away in the fourth on Cade Burris's RBI-single and Chaz Burgin's two-run double, which stretched the Cats' lead to 8-1. Walnut Ridge tacked on an additional run in the fifth inning to close out the scoring.

Lady Cats complete season

Marmaduke's Lady Greyhounds scored 13 runs in the first inning en route to an 18-4 win over the Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats in the 2A-North Regional Softball Tournament on Thursday at Marked Tree. The Lady Cats ended the season with an 18-11 overall record.

Walnut Ridge took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a three-run home run by Baylee Burris before Marmaduke struck back with their big inning in the bottom of the frame.

Mustangs fall in regional tourney

The Hoxie Mustangs baseball season ended with a 10-2 loss to Mountain View in the first round of the 3A Region 3 Tournament on Thursday at Harrison.

Mountain View scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Mustangs tied the game on a two-run double by Lucas Willfond in the top of the third inning.

Hillcrest track has successful season

The Hillcrest High School track teams competed at the 1A Region East District Meet on April 25 in Mountain Home. The boys' team won first place with a total of 219 points. Jordan Keehn was named high point boy at the meet.

Boys individual results were:

Nick Allen - 110-meter hurdles, fifth place, 23.71.

Hillcrest junior boys earn track title

The Hillcrest junior high track teams competed in the 1A Region East District Meet on April 21 at Mountain Home. The boys team placed first to earn the district championship, while the girls team placed third.

Boys individual results included:

Jonathan Dulaney - 800-meter run, third place, 2:46.25; high jump, eighth place, 4'4"; long jump, eighth place, 13'8";
