The two-story houseboat from last week's paper can be seen in the distance from the top of a dredge boat on Cache River. Plans for dredging Cache River started in the 1910s and came to fruition in the 1920s. The slow-draining, meandering river was changed into a fast-draining channel, as shown in this photograph from 1923. This improvement helped turn the surrounding swampland into valuable farmland.
