"We had so many great volunteers who stood in rain, lightning and cold weather and never stopped," Maryman said. WR to allocate more
Aldermen approved a resolution amending the 2016 budget allocating $50,000 for paving and street repair during a special Walnut Ridge City Council meeting held on April 26. This is in addition to the $100,000 the council appropriated earlier in the year.

Councilmen agreed that with the current cost of paving as low as it is, it is in the best interest of the city to spend as much as possible to improve the roads.
Consolidation election is Tuesday
Registered voters in College City and Walnut Ridge will go to the polls on Tuesday to vote on the proposed consolidation of the two municipalities.
The ballot will include a vote on the consolidation itself and on the name of the consolidated city, Walnut Ridge or College City.
Wings of Honor Festival Saturday
The inaugural Wings of Honor Festival will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in conjunction with the 18th annual Walnut Ridge Army Air Field Reunion, which is set for Friday and Saturday at the Walnut Ridge Regional Airport.
The new festival, sponsored by the Wings of Honor Museum and the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, is designed to be a community festival to celebrate the history of the airfield and salute the veterans who served.
loss of Vickers
The Williams Baptist College family is grieving the loss of one of its own, after sophomore psychology major Britny Vickers of Homosassa, Fla., was killed in a car accident Monday night in Walnut Ridge.
Vickers, 20, was killed when the 2010 Toyota Corolla, she was driving southbound on Highway 63 near the intersection with Highway 91, was struck by a 2004 Chevrolet pickup that had crossed the centerline.
lives of couple
A one-vehicle accident on April 26 resulted in the deaths of a couple from Strawberry, according to a preliminary crash summary released by the Arkansas State Police.
According to the report, Bobbi Sue Geurin, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Ralph Boyd Geurin, 57, was taken to UAMS in Little Rock, where he died on Thursday.
