Mustangs record three wins
The Hoxie baseball team enjoyed an undefeated week on the diamond, winning all three of its contests last week.
Hoxie routed 3A-3 Conference opponent Piggott 13-2 at Piggott on Friday.
Piggott scored twice in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead, but Hoxie's bats came alive in the top of the third inning as the Mustangs stormed back to take a 7-2 lead. Brody Raby tied the game with a two-run double that plated Paul Adamson and Wesley Wright, who had both singled. After Lucas Willfond reached on an error, Dylan Littlejohn delivered a bunt single to score Raby. Willfond came home on a single by Austen Blocker to make the score 4-2 in the Mustangs' favor. Following a walk to Alex Carpenter, Adamson hit a ground ball back to the pitcher. The Mohawks committed several throwing errors on the play, allowing three more Mustangs to cross the plate.
Hoxie added five runs in the fourth inning and a single run in the fifth to close out the scoring. Mustang pitchers held Piggott scoreless after the second inning, and the game ended after the fifth due to the run rule.
Cats end conference play with win
The Walnut Ridge baseball team wrapped up 2A-2 Conference play with a 15-0 shutout of White County Central on Saturday at Judsonia.
The Bobcats scored in each of the five innings, while Luke Wall kept WCC off the scoreboard with a four-hit, nine-strikeout performance on the mound.
At the plate for Walnut Ridge, Will Weir went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored three runs. Wall contributed a hit, two RBIs and scored two runs. Slade Dalton, Kolton Oglesby and Zach Osburn each had a hit and scored a run. Drake Smelser had a hit and an RBI. Preston Aaron went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run.
Hillcrest sweeps ICC
The Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles swept a high school baseball doubleheader from Izard County Consolidated on April 18 at Strawberry.
Nathan Pankey held ICC to three hits as the Eagles took the opener 8-2. Pankey surrendered one earned run and registered nine strikeouts.
Jared Bristow went 2-for-4 at the plate, including a solo home run, and finished with three RBIs and scored two runs. Jordan Keehn had a hit, an RBI and scored a run. Hunter Moore contributed a hit, while Tyson Durham, Pankey, Dyllan Nunnally, Drake Brannon, Keehn and Houston Netrefa each scored a run.
S-H beats Hoxie in high-scoring game
The Sloan-Hendrix Lady Greyhounds outscored Hoxie's Lady Mustangs 24-20 in high school softball action Thursday at Imboden.
Hoxie led 7-0 until Sloan-Hendrix erupted for 15 runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Lady Hounds stretched the lead to 18-8 after three innings. Hoxie roared back to score 11 unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 19-18 lead before Sloan-Hendrix tied the game at 19-19 with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
The Lady Greyhounds added five runs in the sixth inning to regain the advantage, 24-19. Hoxie added a final run in the top of the seventh inning to set the final score.
Lady Cats have split week
The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats routed White County Central 18-0 in 2A-2 softball action Saturday at Judsonia.
The Lady Cats made short work of WCC, scoring nine runs in the first inning, six in the second inning and three in the third. The Lady Bears managed just one hit off Baylee Haskins in the three-inning game.
Several Lady Cats put up big numbers at the plate. Haskins went 4-for-4 with five RBIs and scored four runs. Whitney Rider went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and scored two runs. Baylee Davis went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and scored two runs.
