Kiwanis renames pancake
breakfast for Keith Brand
Members of the Kiwanis Club of Walnut Ridge have voted to rename their annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast the "Keith Brand Memorial Pancake Breakfast" in his honor and memory.
Brand, who was a Walnut Ridge banker and community leader, died in May of 2015. "Keith was a great friend, leader and vital member of our club," said Karen Pratt, Kiwanis Club president in 2015, when the club voted on the name change.
"We feel that our breakfast is more than just a fundraiser for a good cause. We believe it promotes good fellowship and helps build a sense of community, two matters that were important to Keith," Pratt said.
"Our hope is that this small act would be an inspiration for others to serve, lead and extend friendship as Keith did," she added.
This year's breakfast is set for Saturday, May 7, from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Van Ellis Cafeteria on the Walnut Ridge School campus. Tickets are $5 each, and children six and under can eat free.
The Walnut Ridge High School Key Club is assisting the Kiwanis Club, and tickets can be purchased from members of either organization or at the door. Tickets are also available at Iberiabank in Walnut Ridge.
Funds raised will be used for service projects for both clubs.
