Hoxie falls to Rivercrest, beats

A late rally by Hoxie fell just short, as the Mustangs fell to Rivercrest 5-4 in 3A-3 baseball action Friday at Wilson.
The Colts took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and maintained the advantage until Hoxie tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth. Rivercrest bounced back with four runs in the bottom half of the frame to regain the lead at 5-1. Hoxie closed to within 5-3 with two runs in the sixth inning. The Mustangs added one run in the top of the seventh inning, but couldn't push across the tying run.
Wesley Wright led Hoxie at the plate, going 3-for-3 and scoring a run. Paul Adamson went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run. James Johnson and Dylan Littlejohn each went 2-for-4 as well. Lucas Willfond had a hit and an RBI, and Brody Raby scored a run. Augustus Wicker had an RBI and scored a run. Austen Blocker had a hit and an RBI, and Alex Carpenter added a hit.
Wright took the loss on the mound for the Mustangs. He allowed three earned runs on nine hits, with six strikeouts.
Hoxie defeated conference opponent Osceola 12-2 in six innings on Thursday at Hoxie.
The Mustangs scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning, three in the fourth, three in the fifth and four in the sixth. The Seminoles' only runs came in the fifth inning.
Wicker had a good day for the Mustangs, both on the mound and at the plate. He pitched a six-inning complete game, allowing two earned runs on three hits while registering nine strikeouts. At the plate, he batted 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored two runs.
Also for Hoxie, Adamson went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, and Littlejohn was 2-for-3 with one RBI and scored two runs. Wright went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run, and Raby went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Willfond had a hit, an RBI and scored two runs. Carpenter had a hit and scored a run, and Blocker scored two runs.
The Mustangs traveled to Southside on April 12 and defeated the Southerners 12-7 in a non-conference matchup.
Hoxie's bats were in action from the outset scoring all of their runs in the first four innings while building a 12-3 lead. Southside refused to go away, plating one run in the fifth inning and adding three more in the sixth. Hoxie pitching held the Southerners scoreless in the final inning to secure the win.
Wright led the Mustang offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. He drove in three runs and scored three runs. Johnson went 2-for-5 with an RBI and scored two runs, while Willfond also had two hits. Blocker went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Wicker went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored two runs. Carpenter had two hits and two RBIs, and Adamson had a hit and scored two runs. Raby had an RBI and scored a run, and Littlejohn scored two runs.
Littlejohn earned the win on the mound. He allowed six earned runs on eight hits, with one strikeout in five-and-two-thirds innings. Adamson pitched the final inning-and-a-third, allowing one hit while striking out one.
Hoxie began the week with a 7-3 conference win over the Piggott Mohawks on April 11 at Hoxie.
Piggott led 3-0 after scoring two runs in the third inning and one run in the top of the fifth. Hoxie struck back with six runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the seventh, while holding the Mohawks scoreless in the final two innings.
Willfond had a three-run double, and finished with four RBIs and scored a run. Wright went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Raby was 1-for-3 and scored two runs. Wicker had a hit, and Johnson scored a run. Littlejohn went 2-for-3 and scored a run, and Blocker scored a run. Adamson had a hit and two RBIs, and Carpenter drove in one run.
