Hoxie falls to Rivercrest, beats
Osceola, Southside, Piggott

A late rally by Hoxie fell just short, as the Mustangs fell to Rivercrest 5-4 in 3A-3 baseball action Friday at Wilson.

The Colts took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and maintained the advantage until Hoxie tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth. Rivercrest bounced back with four runs in the bottom half of the frame to regain the lead at 5-1. Hoxie closed to within 5-3 with two runs in the sixth inning. The Mustangs added one run in the top of the seventh inning, but couldn't push across the tying run.

Wesley Wright led Hoxie at the plate, going 3-for-3 and scoring a run. Paul Adamson went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run. James Johnson and Dylan Littlejohn each went 2-for-4 as well. Lucas Willfond had a hit and an RBI, and Brody Raby scored a run. Augustus Wicker had an RBI and scored a run. Austen Blocker had a hit and an RBI, and Alex Carpenter added a hit.

Bobcats record victories

Walnut Ridge defeated Corning 7-1 in high school baseball action Friday at Corning.

Corning scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and led 1-0 until Walnut Ridge plated a pair of runs in the third inning to move into a 2-1 lead. The score remained 2-1 until Walnut Ridge broke through for five runs in the top of the sixth inning. Walnut Ridge pitcher Colin Phillips held Corning scoreless in the final two frames to seal the win.

Phillips tossed a complete game, allowing just one earned run on seven hits, while recording five strikeouts.

Screamin' Eagles beat Marmaduke

The Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles scored eight runs in the fourth inning and went on to defeat the Marmaduke Greyhounds 10-0 in high school baseball action Friday at Strawberry.

Hillcrest led 1-0 after three innings and their big fourth inning stretched the lead to 9-0. The Eagles added one run in the bottom of the fifth to end the game due to the run rule.

Dyllan Nunnally pitched all five innings for Hillcrest, giving up just two hits while striking out eight Greyhound batters.

Hoxie girls fall to Bay

Bay's Lady Yellowjackets outscored the Hoxie Lady Mustangs 22-12 in high school softball action on Friday at Bay.

Hoxie led 5-1 after plating five runs in the top of the second inning, and stretched their lead to 7-2 in the top of the third inning. Bay cut the lead to 7-5 with three runs in the bottom of the third, but the Lady Mustangs answered with three scores of their own in the top of the fourth inning to extend their lead to 10-5.

Bay's offense erupted for 17 runs over the next two innings to take the win. First, the Lady Yellowjackets scored six times in the bottom of the fourth inning to take an 11-10 lead. Hoxie regained the lead at 12-11 with two runs in the top of the fifth inning, but Bay broke through for 11 runs in the

Lady Cats win one, drop two

The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats softball team opened last week with a rout of Riverside before closing the week with heartbreaking losses to Salem and Tuckerman in conference play.


The Lady Cats traveled to Salem on Thursday and suffered a 5-4 setback in eight innings to the Lady Greyhounds.

With two out in the top of the first inning, Baylee Davis, Baylee Burris and Maggie Jackson each singled to load the bases. Briley Henson followed with a line-drive single that scored Davis and Burris. Alyssa Jones then doubled, bringing home Jackson for a 3-0 Walnut Ridge lead.
