Weddings

Johnson ~ Lawrence

Lisa Johnson and Patrick Johnson, both of Walnut Ridge, have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Morgan "Taylor" Johnson, to Tommy Joe Lawrence, son of Tina Renee Lawrence and Tommy D. Lawrence, both of Black Rock.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Patsy and Wayne Hamm of Osceola, the late Lloyd Thornton, the late Brenda and Albert Knipple and the late Donnie Johnson.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Lula and Ed Lawrence of Black Rock and Marilyn Browder of Milton, Fla., and the late Willis Browder.

The couple will exchange vows on Saturday in a private ceremony. A reception will be held at the Walnut Ridge Country Club at 7:30 p.m. All friends and family are invited.

Obituaries

RomaDell Aaron

RomaDell Aaron, 80, of Black Rock, died April 6, 2016, at Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis.

Born Sept. 21, 1935, in Portageville, Mo., she was the daughter of Roman and Enola Permenter Cromwell. She worked at the S&H Green Stamp store in Walnut Ridge for many years, and retired from Farm Bureau. She was a member of the Lions Club of Black Rock and First Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Aaron, whom she married Feb. 16, 1957, in Hayti, Mo.; and two sisters, Camilla Joyce Cromwell and Possie Cromwell.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby Aaron and wife Kelly, Hoxie, and Michael Aaron and wife Terri, Doniphan, Mo.; seven grandchildren, AaLesha, Kali, Hunter, Preston, Chailland, Savannah and Dylan; and a lifetime friend, Mary Ann Flowers.

Funeral was Sunday at 2 p.m., at Cox Funeral Home with Jake Guenrich officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Keith Aaron, Billy Clark, Tim Cool, Michael Cool, Donnie Jones, Jamie McKee and Brian Jackson. Honorary pallbearers were Chuck Flowers, Levi Webb, Donald Sanders, R.L. Haynes, Scott Campbell and Greg Evans.

Elsie Craig Allmond

Elsie Craig Allmond, 89, of Paragould, died April 7, 2016, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Born Jan. 7, 1927, in Dixie, she was the daughter of Walter and Martha Faulkenberry Hatch. She married Vertis Craig Jr. in 1944. They lived in El Centro, Calif., and in Michigan before moving to Walnut Ridge, where she lived most of her life. She assisted her husband with their local grocery stores. They were also instrumental in missionary trips to Panama in the 1970s.

Several years after becoming a widow, she met Coleman Allmond. They married and moved to Natchez, Miss., and later to Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vertis Craig Jr.; her second husband, Coleman Allmond; a son, Bobby Craig; a grandson, Ronnie Joe Craig; five brothers; and a sister.

Survivors include two sons, Ronnie Craig and wife Vickie, Paragould, and Jeff Craig, Paragould; six grandchildren, Kyle Craig, Chad Craig, Scott Craig, Jamie Craig, Cortney Kuntze and Candace Kemp; and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Monday at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Memorial Park with Clyde Mize officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Glen D. Bellah

Glen D. Bellah, 78, of Genoa, Ill., formerly of Walnut Ridge, died April 7, 2016, at his home, following a long illness.

Born Aug. 6, 1937, in Alicia, he was the son of Ludie and Emma Oldham Bellah. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1955 to 1958.

He was preceded in death by a son, Reginald; and a brother, Dale.

Survivors include two daughters, Belinda Yauger and husband Rick, and Gwen Bellah-Snyder and husband Tim; a sister, Sharon Schwarz and husband Bill; three grandchildren, Devin Yauger, Kristen Yauger and Rick Yauger; and his honorary brother, Les Bellah and wife Patsy.

Funeral was Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at Slater-Butala Funeral Home in Genoa, Ill., with Rev. James P. Freund officiating. Burial with full military rites was in Genoa Cemetery.

Bud Jones

Camuel Harrison "Bud" Jones, 79, of Hoxie, died April 11, 2016, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born Sept. 9, 1936, in Biggers-Reyno, he was the son of Dewey and Iva Ellen Stouts Jones. He was a retired owner of the Jones and Sons car lot in Walnut Ridge and a member of Hoxie Baptist Church. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason with the Hoxie Masonic Lodge #692, Charles Chapter of the Eastern Star #410 and a Shriner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Guilliams Jones, on April 20, 2009, whom he married May 28, 1953; a brother, Dewey Dewain "Beaver" Jones; and a sister, Buena Jones.

Survivors include two sons, Ken Jones and wife Phyllis, Bono, and Ron Jones and wife Susan, Hoxie; two daughters, Doris Weaver and husband Monty, and Barbara Teel and husband Joel, all of Hoxie; a brother, Ronald "Hoss" Jones and wife Liz, Hoxie; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Thursday at 10 a.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Bro. William Basser officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Dave Grissom, Sid Phillips, Rick Swindle, Kevin Travis, Keith Stratton and Johnny Gaither. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Atkinson, Earl Highfield, O'Dell Davis and the members of Bible Class.

Visitation is today from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Katherine Sue Land

Katherine Sue Cypret Land, 88, of Pocahontas, died April 10, 2016, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born June 25, 1927, in the Old Walnut Ridge community, she was the daughter of James Elzie and Lola Bell McEntire Cypret. She lived most of her life in Pocahontas and retired from Brown Shoe Company after 25 years of service. She was a member of the Pyburn Street Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Kline Land; four brothers, Herman, Woodrow, Grover and Clarence Cypret; two sisters, Bertha Cypret Holder and Pauline Henderson Cole; two nieces, Jolene Holder Smith and Bettye Cole Ray; and two nephews, John T. Cole and Larry "Skip" Cole.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Land and wife Cindy, Pocahontas; three nephews, Jerry Cypret, Jimmy Cypret and Mike Cypret, all of Michigan; three nieces, Brenda Cypret Denison, Walnut Ridge, Linda Cypret Ross, Paragould, Janis Cypret Shields, Michigan, and Mary Sue Holder Livermon, Arizona.

Funeral is today at 10 a.m. at Fears Family Funeral Home in Pocahontas with Gerald Fears officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jack Land, Kelly Waddell, Robert Denison, Lowell Smith, Heath Deese and Jeff Clements.

Scott McEntire

Tracy Scott McEntire, 52, of Powhatan, died April 6, 2016, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born June 21, 1963, in Walnut Ridge, he had worked as a heavy equipment operator, truck driver and car salesman. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Robyn Brewer McEntire, whom he married Sept. 21, 1987, in Lynn; three sons, Dillon McEntire and Ryder Scott McEntire, both of the home, and Dustin Barron, Lake City; his mother, Karen Cameron Duncan (Oland), Walnut Ridge; his father, Donald "Sonny" McEntire (Deb), Walnut Ridge; a brother, Byron McEntire, Imboden; two sisters, Rhonda Fowler and husband Scott, Clover Bend, and Tonda Brand, Walnut Ridge; two stepsisters, Amanda Betts and husband Paul, Jonesboro, Lindsey Romine and husband Blake, Walnut Ridge; his paternal grandmother, Geneva McEntire, Walnut Ridge; a grandson, Aiden Barron; his in-laws, Frank and Joyce Brewer; and a brother-in-law, David Brewer and wife Dianne.

A celebration of his life was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Annieville with Jerry Clements officiating. Cox Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Paul Vern Milligan

Paul Vern Milligan, 81, of Waterloo, Ill., died April 10, 2016, in Waterloo.

Born Aug. 13, 1934, in Sharp County, he was the son of Paul and Cora McGinnis Milligan. He was a maintenance technician at United Technology in St. Louis for 40 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a Shriner.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lavelle Milligan; a sister, Bernice Wildrick; and an infant daughter.

Survivors include a son, Steven Milligan, Freeburg, Ill.; a daughter, Karen Kirby, Belleville, Ill.; four sisters, Christine Bagley, Walnut Ridge, Wanda McCormic and Joan Wallis, both of Hoxie, and Joyce Ward, Somerville, S.C.; and three grandchildren.

Graveside service is today at noon at Milligan Campground Cemetery, near Strawberry, under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Visitation is today from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Gladys D. Whetsel

Gladys Dean Cagle Whetsel, 89, of Walnut Ridge, died April 6, 2016, at her home.

Born Oct. 3, 1926, in Ozark, she was the daughter of Willis and Sula Cagle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Whetsel; three brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include three daughters, Jane Whetsel (Dave), Jonesboro, Rhonda Snyder and husband David, Walnut Ridge, and Marcelle Cobb and husband Boyd, Lake City; a son, Gary Whetsel, Cross, S.C.; a sister, Lula Boyce and husband Harold, Bradford; two brothers, Thomas Cagle and wife Bea, Bradford, and Lynn Cagle and wife Laverne, Beebe; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Sunday at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Eddie Weatherford officiating. Burial was in Leachville Cemetery.
