Kregan Dale Looney

William and Sarah Looney of Alicia have announced the birth of a son, born March 25, 2016, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed five pounds, 15 ounces, and has been named Kregan Dale Looney. He has two siblings, Kaydence and Kandon.

Grandparents are Beverly Simmons of Hoxie, Mike and Janet Simmons of Jonesboro and Bill and Marie Looney of Clover Bend.

Great-grandparents are Ann Sullivan of Walnut Ridge, Eldon and Joyce Simmons of Annieville and Helen Looney of Hoxie.

Brinlee Gail Matthews

Brody and Lana Matthews of Bono have announced the birth of a daughter, born March 25, 2016, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed eight pounds, six ounces, and has been named Brinlee Gail Matthews. She has a sister, Rylee Dene Matthews, one.

Grandparents are Alan and Debbie Richey of Powhatan and Tony Matthews of Smithville.

Great-grandparents are Bobby and Janna Neal of Sedgwick, Ken and Karen Hobba of Bono and Loyd and Catherine Richey of Powhatan.

Harris ~ Meadors

Mr. and Mrs. Terry Harris of McCrory and Mr. and Mrs. James Meadors, III of Fort Smith, formerly of Walnut Ridge, announce the engagement of their children, Lindsay Beth Harris and Tyler Caleb Meadors.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Gene and Peggy Harris of Colt and the late Louis and Nina James, who lived in McCrory.

Lindsay Beth attended Arkansas State University and is a graduate of the University of Arkansas School for Medical Sciences, where she earned a bachelor's degree in dental hygiene. She works as a hygienist at Little Rock Family Dental.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Rev. Jim and Ella Mae Meadors of Fort Smith, formerly of Walnut Ridge, and the late Ralph and Mary Lee Jarrett, who lived in Walnut Ridge.

Tyler is a graduate of Arkansas Tech University with a bachelor's degree in agricultural business and a graduate of Arkansas State University, where he received a master's degree in plant and soil science. He works as a Precision Ag Consultant for Greenway in Des Arc.

Plans for a summer wedding on Saturday, July 9, have been set. The ceremony and reception will be held at the Cooper Alumni Center at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro beginning at 6 p.m. All family and friends are invited.

Wanda Carol Black

Wanda Carol Black, 67, of Hoxie, died April 4, 2016, at the NEA Hospital in Jonesboro.

Born Jan. 23, 1949, in Hoxie, she was a lifelong resident of Hoxie and was of the Baptist belief. She was part owner and real estate agent for Black and Fowler Real Estate.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ermer and Margie Fry Wicker; and a brother and sister-in-law, J.C. and Dorothy Wicker.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Black; a son, Wayne Black and wife Gwen, Hoxie; a daughter, Margarett Tyler and husband Doug, Pocahontas; four sisters, Nadine Murphy and husband Jim, Lorado, Lelia Stowers, Pocahontas, and Barb Lamb and husband Tom and Shirley Scott and husband Dewey, all of Hoxie; and six grandchildren.

Funeral is Thursday at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with John Durham officiating. Burial will be in Lorado Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Cecil Burnside

Cecil Burnside, 80, of Walnut Ridge, died April 3, 2016, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

Born May 10, 1935, in Hardy, he was the son of Sidney and Bertha Burnside.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Dortha Burnside; a daughter, Janet Crum; a son, Dickey Burnside; a stepson, Kenneth Strange; and two brothers, Clifford Burnside and Marvin Burnside.

Funeral is today at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery at Imboden with Rob Combs officiating.

Visitation is today from 1 p.m. until time of the service.

Barbara Sue Campbell

Barbara Sue Campbell, 71, of Portia, died April 1, 2016, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 12, 1944, in Salado, she was the daughter of the late Ira and Mattie Campbell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather; a brother; and a sister.

Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Campbell, Portia; a sister, Mana Meeks and husband Larry, Pocahontas; and three brothers, James Campbell and wife Pam, and Jim Campbell, all of Wisconsin, and Troy Campbell, Imboden.

Funeral was Monday at 2 p.m. at Portia Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Maple Springs Cemetery at Rosie under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Batesville.

Pallbearers were Lonnie Young, Terry Young, Mike Young, Keath Young, David Young and James Young. Honorary pallbearers were the residents and staff of Haynes House in Portia.

Jerry G. Digman Sr.

Jerry G. Digman Sr., 77, of North Dallas, Texas, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died April 3, 2016, in Richardson, Texas.

Born April 27, 1938, in Walnut Ridge, he was the son of Ossie A. Digman and Ivern Ramsey Wallin. He was a lifelong resident of Walnut Ridge until moving to Texas. Growing up, he worked at Wallin's Wrecker Service with his brother, Michael "Button" Wallin. He worked as a mechanic and a truck driver until he retired.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael "Button" Wallin; and a son, Jerry O. Digman Jr.

Survivors include his wife of about 62 years, Louise Andrews Digman; two sons, Marty Digman and wife Gwen, Allen, Texas, and Scott Digman and wife Tina, Wylie, Texas; a daughter, Amelia Lewis, California; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Saturday at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home. Burial will be in Whittaker Cemetery with Timothy Campbell officiating.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.

A.J. Eason

Ashley Joseph "A.J." Eason, 39, of Jonesboro, died April 1, 2016, at NEA Baptist Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born Feb. 22, 1977, in Jonesboro, he lived most of his life in Walnut Ridge. He lived the past 10 years in the Walcott-Jonesboro area. He was a heavy equipment operator and was of the Free Will Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by a grandfather, G.W. Eason; and an aunt, Kathy Eason Thomas.

Survivors include a son, Colin (Moore) Eason, Jonesboro; his mother and stepfather, Robin and John Burtman, Jonesboro; a grandmother, Betty Wagoner, Jonesboro; an aunt and uncle, Crystal and Tim Richmond, Walnut Ridge; two cousins and a sister of the heart, Lauren Richmond, Walnut Ridge, and Josh Huff, Portia; and a grandfather, Junior Wagoner, Strawberry.

Funeral was Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. Paul Wayne Calkin officiating. Burial was in Noble Cemetery near Brookland.

Pallbearers were Colin Eason, Blake Webbe, Ralph Winters, Josh Huff, Ronald Wagoner and Zach Mullen. Honorary pallbearers included Curtis Pace and Paul E. Calkin.

William Hinds Peacock

William Hinds Peacock, 58, of Lockhart, Texas, formerly of Lynn, died March 14, 2016.

Born July 3, 1957, he was the son of the late H.L. Peacock Jr. and Bernice Peacock. He had been a minister for 31 years.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Marlin Peacock; and a sister, Sheila Lindsey.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Peacock; two children, Amanda Howard, Black Rock, and Whitney Peacock, Weiner; a sister, Linda DeLoach, Pleasant Hill, La.; two brothers, Raymond Peacock, Metairie, La., and Glenn Peacock, Birmingham, Ala.; and two grandchildren, Allison and Tylan.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Eaton. A memorial service will also be held Sunday, April 17, at Bethel Bible Baptist Church in Mansfield, La.

Johnny Stayton

Johnny Leon Stayton, 45, of Jonesboro, died April 3, 2016, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born Aug. 31, 1970, in Walnut Ridge, he lived in Walnut Ridge until moving to Jonesboro in 2000. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where he served as head verger. He loved his family, his church and his animals, and enjoyed gardening. He lived in faithful service to God and his church, whom he loved so much.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Glenda Mathis Stayton; his grandparents; and an aunt and uncle.

Survivors include his partner of 24 years, E Paul Milam; his father, Leon Stayton and wife Barbara, Pocahontas; a stepbrother, Brandon Sisco, Pocahontas.

His life will be celebrated with a high solemn mass on Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with Father Jesse Perkins officiating. A reception will follow at 3 p.m. in Parrish Hall.

Braylee Dawn Antrim-Stewart

Braylee Dawn Antrim-Stewart, infant daughter of Michael Lee Stewart and Katarina Nicole Antrim of Walnut Ridge, died March 25, 2016.

She was born Feb. 10, 2016, in Paragould.

She was preceded in death by a grandmother, Angela Dawn Stewart; and a great-grandfather, Frank Saterfiel.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by grandparents, great-grandparents and special aunts and uncles.

Graveside service was Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.

Harold Gene Thacker

Harold Gene Thacker, 73, of Piggott, died March 30, 2016, at his home.

Born Feb. 28, 1943, in Smithville, he was retired from Emerson Electric after many years, and was a member of Lonoke Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Plina Savannah Sullivan Thacker; his parents, Jack and Grace Ann Tanner Thacker; several brothers and sisters; and a great-grandson, William Richardson Buck III.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Buck and husband Billy, Boydsville, and Penny Sikes, Paragould; four sisters, Laveda Drury and Shirley Drury, both of Lafe, Dee Carter, Florida, and Joyce Ann Malone, Paragould; seven grandchildren Kendra Buck, Cobi Buck, Breanna Buck, Bailey Akau, Coty Willingham, Kaley Beckett and Dakota Willingham; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Saturday at noon at Cox Funeral Home with Charles Morgan officiating. Burial was in Townsend Cemetery at Smithville.

Cleo Franklin Tolbert

Cleo Franklin Tolbert, 91, of Booneville, formerly of Black Rock, died March 30, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith.

Born April 7, 1924, in Lawrence County, he was the son of William F. and Nettie Ann Creek Tolbert. He was a farmer his whole life.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Matt and Lester Tolbert; and two sisters, Lucille Slatton and Edith Tolbert.

Survivors include three nephews, Doug Richey, Booneville, Ken Richey, Clinton, and Tim Tolbert, Sheridan; a niece, Rita Richey Smith, Brevard, N.C.; and four great-nieces and great-nephews, Amanda Richey Maness, C.J. Smith, Kenny Richey Jr. and Laura Richey Edwards.

Funeral was Sunday at 2 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Bro. Harold Russell officiating. Burial was in Oak Forest Cemetery at Black Rock.

Joe Glenn Whaley

Joe Glenn Whaley, 83, of Hoxie, died April 2, 2016, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born Jan. 13, 1933, in Alicia, he was the son of Tillman and Willie Gifford Whaley. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and worked assembly at Vulcan.

He was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Burall Whaley, whom he married July 12, 1957; two sons, Perry Whaley and Randy Whaley, both of Hoxie; a brother, Robin Whaley, Clover Bend; a sister, Wanda Smith, Imboden; a granddaughter, Megan Whaley; and a great-grandson.

A memorial service will be announced by Bryan Funeral Home.
