Frankly Speaking

The newly paved eight-foot wide walkways at the Stewart Park ball fields are a much-needed project and money well spent. The walkways will greatly enhance handicap accessibility and will be helpful to young and old who attend or participate in ball games at the park.

Pictures of the Past

Ripe bananas, Krispy Crackers and a six pack of sodas for 25 cents are just a few of the items visible in this 1937 photograph of Rainwater's Grocery in Walnut Ridge. Located on the 200 block of West Elm Street, the concrete slab is still visible. The man on the left with the cap is Heavy Blankenship, a local electrician. On the right side of the store (from left) are Donnis Ramer, Addison Rainwater and Charlie Rainwater. (Pictures of the Past is a cooperative effort of The Times Dispatch and the Lawrence County Historical Society. Readers are encouraged to submit historic photos.)
