The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats softball team traveled to Heber Springs on Saturday to compete in the Rumble in the Jungle tournament. The Lady Cats dropped their first two contests before rallying to win their final two, finishing 2-2 on the day.
Walnut Ridge began the day with a 14-3 loss to Concord. Baylee Burris and Alyssa Jones each had a hit.
Mustangs win one, lose
one in high-scoring week
The Hoxie Mustangs scored in every frame of a 14-4 five-inning win over Manila in 3A-3 baseball action Thursday at Hoxie.
The Mustangs scored twice in the bottom of the first inning and tallied three more runs in the second to open a 5-1 lead. Each team added a run in the third inning to make the score 6-2 in the Mustangs' favor. Hoxie added a run in the fourth inning to stretch the advantage to 7-2.
Cats compete in tourney
The Walnut Ridge Bobcat baseball team competed in the Rumble at the Rock tournament on Saturday in Little Rock.
Walnut Ridge lost to the Horatio Lions 5-3 on Saturday morning.
The Bobcats led 2-1 until Horatio scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-2 lead. The Lions increased the lead to 5-2 with a run in the fifth inning. Walnut Ridge added a run in the sixth inning to cut the margin to 5-3, but would not get any closer.
Bobcats defeat Sloan-Hendrix
Walnut Ridge defeated Sloan-Hendrix 9-2 in 2A-2 Conference baseball action March 15 at Imboden.
After two scoreless innings, Walnut Ridge opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the third inning and a single run in the fourth. The Greyhounds scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Bobcats' lead to 3-1. Walnut Ridge stretched the lead to 7-1 with a four-run fifth inning. Sloan-Hendrix plated a run in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 7-2, but the Bobcats added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to complete the scoring.
Hoxie falls to Cedar Ridge
Cedar Ridge scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to a 10-0 shutout of the Hoxie Lady Mustangs in high school softball action March 15 at Newark.
The Lady Timberwolves added one run in the third inning, two in the fourth and single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to round out the scoring.
