Bobcats defeat Hillcrest
Walnut Ridge's Preston Aaron slugged a three-run home run to propel the Bobcats to an 8-1 win over the Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles in high school baseball action on March 8 at Walnut Ridge.
The Bobcats took an early lead with a single run in the bottom of the first inning. Hillcrest tied the game 1-1 in the top of the third inning when Houston Netrefa scored on a hit by Dyllan Nunnally.
Walnut Ridge took command of the contest with four runs in the bottom of the inning, with Aaron's homer being the key hit. The Bobcats added a run in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth to close out the scoring.
Will Weir had a perfect day at the plate for the Bobcats, going 4-for-4 and driving in two runs. Drake Smith went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs.
Luke Wall tossed a complete game on the mound for Walnut Ridge. He allowed one run on five hits, while striking out eight.
For Hillcrest, Tyson Durham went 2-for-3, while Nunnally finished with a hit and an RBI. Jared Bristow and Drake Brannon also had hits for the Screamin' Eagles.
Nathan Pankey pitched six innings for Hillcrest, allowing four earned runs on nine hits, and recording eight strikeouts.
