Bobcats defeat Hillcrest
Walnut Ridge's Preston Aaron slugged a three-run home run to propel the Bobcats to an 8-1 win over the Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles in high school baseball action on March 8 at Walnut Ridge.
The Bobcats took an early lead with a single run in the bottom of the first inning. Hillcrest tied the game 1-1 in the top of the third inning when Houston Netrefa scored on a hit by Dyllan Nunnally.
Hoxie beats Hillcrest
The Hoxie Lady Mustangs earned their first win of the softball season when they defeated Hillcrest 12-8 in a rain-shortened six-inning softball game on March 8 at Lynn.
Mackenzie Orrick earned the pitching win, allowing three runs on one hit in three innings of work. She also struck out four batters. Sydney Gillham pitched three innings in relief. She allowed five runs on four hits, while striking out four.
Lady Cats blank WCC
The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats needed just three innings to rout White County Central, 15-0, in 2A-2 softball action on March 7 at Walnut Ridge.
Walnut Ridge scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, then exploded for 11 runs in the second. The Lady Cats scored one run in the third inning to end the game via the run rule.
Hoxie falls to Southside
The Southside Southerners defeated Hoxie 4-3 in 10 innings on March 7 at Hoxie's Crider Field.
Southside got on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the fourth inning. The Mustangs tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Augustus Wicker walked and stole second. Wicker moved to third on a hit by Dylan Littlejohn, then scored on a groundout by Alex Carpenter.
WR falls to Pangburn
The Pangburn Tigers broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on their way to handing Walnut Ridge a 5-0 loss in 2A-2 baseball action March 7 at Pangburn.
Cade Burris, Luke Wall and Will Weir had the Bobcats' only three hits in the contest.
