Local teams compete

S-H - EPC girls
The Sloan-Hendrix Lady Greyhounds held off a late charge by East Poinsett County to defeat the Lady Warriors 59-58 in front of a home crowd in the first round of the 2A North Regional Tournament on Thursday.
In addition to sending the Lady Greyhounds on to the semifinals, the victory also clinched a berth in the 2A State Tournament at Marmaduke. The Lady Hounds will play Poyen on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Sloan-Hendrix got off to a fast start against EPC, leading 21-13 after the first quarter and 38-26 at halftime. EPC crept closer in the third quarter, but still trailed 50-39 entering the final period. The Lady Warriors outscored Sloan-Hendrix 19-9 in the final period, but the Lady Hounds were able to hold on for the win.
Alyssa Nichols led Sloan-Hendrix with 21 points. Brenda McCain finished with 18 points, and Brittany Gosha added 12 points.
Earle jumped out to a big early lead and the Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats could never recover, falling 65-45 to the Lady Bulldogs in a first-round game on Feb. 24.
Earle led 20-7 after one quarter, 37-20 at halftime and 61-32 after three periods.
Sunnie Cunningham led Walnut Ridge with 17 points, and Megan Jared added 13 points.
The East Poinsett County boys ended the Walnut Ridge Bobcats' season with a 78-54 win on Thursday.
Walnut Ridge led 17-12 at the end of the first quarter, but EPC rallied to move in front 30-29 at the intermission. The Warriors dominated the second half, stretching the lead 55-39 after three quarters. EPC continued to pull away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 23-15.
Kenzie Flippo led Walnut Ridge with 18 points, and Spencer Wilson scored 13 points.
The Earle Bulldogs defeated Sloan-Hendrix 74-40 in the first round on Thursday.
The Bulldogs quieted the home crowd early, taking a 23-9 first-quarter lead, and extending the advantage to 47-17 at halftime. Earle stretched the lead to 65-28 at the end of the third quarter.
Tyler Murphy led Sloan-Hendrix with 18 points. The Greyhounds ended the season with a 22-10 record.
Riverside - S-H girls
The Riverside Lady Rebels outlasted Sloan-Hendrix 41-36 in a girls semifinal game on Friday.
Riverside led 9-5 after one quarter, but the Lady Greyhounds pulled to within 19-18 at the end of the first half. The teams were deadlocked 25-25 after a low-scoring third quarter. The Lady Rebels outscored Sloan-Hendrix 16-11 in the final period to take the win.
Nichols scored 19 points, and Gosha finished with 10 for the Lady Hounds.
S-H - Tuckerman
Four Lady Greyhounds scored in double figures, as Sloan-Hendrix defeated conference rival Tuckerman 59-45 in the consolation game of the girls tournament on Saturday.
Sloan-Hendrix led 15-13 at the end of the first quarter and 26-23 at halftime. The Lady Hounds began to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring Tuckerman 13-7 in the period, to stretch the lead to 39-27. Sloan-Hendrix continued to pull away in the final period to seal the win.
Nichols led a balanced Sloan-Hendrix offense with 16 points. Gosha scored 15 points. McCain finished with 12 points, and Bailey Bradley contributed 10 points.
Jessi Van Lear scored 23 points to lead the Bergman Lady Panthers to a 70-59 win over the Hoxie Lady Mustangs on Thursday at the 3A Region 3 Tournament at Yellville.
The Lady Mustangs concluded the season with a 22-7 record.
The Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles lost to the host Bay Lady Yellowjackets 69-27 at the 1A Region 2 Tournament on Feb. 24.
Hillcrest trailed only 14-11 at the end of the first quarter, but the Lady Jackets began to pull away in the second period. Bay led 37-22 at halftime and 61-27 after three quarters.
