Local teams compete

Several high school basketball teams from Lawrence County competed in their respective regional tournaments last week.
S-H - EPC girls
The Sloan-Hendrix Lady Greyhounds held off a late charge by East Poinsett County to defeat the Lady Warriors 59-58 in front of a home crowd in the first round of the 2A North Regional Tournament on Thursday.
In addition to sending the Lady Greyhounds on to the semifinals, the victory also clinched a berth in the 2A State Tournament at Marmaduke. The Lady Hounds will play Poyen on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Sloan-Hendrix got off to a fast start against EPC, leading 21-13 after the first quarter and 38-26 at halftime. EPC crept closer in the third quarter, but still trailed 50-39 entering the final period. The Lady Warriors outscored Sloan-Hendrix 19-9 in the final period, but the Lady Hounds were able to hold on for the win.
Hillcrest archery teams advance to state
For the first time since Hillcrest School implemented its archery program, all three of its teams will advance to the Arkansas National Archery in the Schools Program State Tournament.
At the ANASP Region 4 Tournament held Saturday at Valley View, the Hillcrest Elementary School team (fourth and fifth grade) placed third behind Valley View and Greene County Tech with a score of 2330. The Hillcrest Junior High team (sixth-eighth grade) was in second place behind GCT with a 3226 score. The Hillcrest High School team (ninth-12th grade) ranked third behind Valley View and GCT with a score of 3185.
