Hoxie mayor struggling
to bring in grocery store

Questions regarding the empty Save-A-Lot building were brought up at the Hoxie City Council meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 9. Mayor Lanny Tinker said he is currently pursuing three or four prospects but has not had any follow-ups.

Last week, the city's reuse committee met and discussed some strategies for bringing in a business. Tinker said he was open to any and all suggestions on how to bring in a new store.

The council briefly discussed other prospects outside of a traditional grocery store but agreed that the city need a grocery store enough that it is worth taking more time to bring one in.

Also at the meeting:

the council approved the official holiday calendar issued by the treasurer of state with the exclusion of Columbus Day. Remaining holidays in 2016 that the city will observe are: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Tinker said that someone has been hired to clean the Kenneth Quarry Service Center. He added while he was handling the cleaning, he noted several maintenance procedures that will become routine.
