Primary nears
for Arkansas

With all the media attention on the president's race in the Iowa caucus held Monday, our Super Tuesday election on March 1 has seemed many weeks away. However, our Preferential Primary Election in Arkansas is now less than a month away, and the many undecided voters, including myself, will have to be choosing a candidate for president.

Early voting will allow voters the opportunity to vote in less than two weeks, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 16, the day after Presidents' Day.

Pictures of the Past

W.E. (Ed) Combs Sr. and his wife, Edith Hall Combs, are shown in front of their service station in Hoxie in the late 1930s. Located just north of Bryan Funeral Home, where Wild Bill's Catfish trailer sets up now, the second story was a boarding house. Their son, W.E. (Junior) Combs, on the bicycle, later owned this and other service stations in Hoxie until his death in 1973. (Pictures of the Past is a cooperative effort of The Times Dispatch and the Lawrence County Historical Society. Readers are encouraged to submit historic photos.)
