After freezing rain left the county ice coated during the middle of last week, residents hunkered down in preparation for several inches of snow that fell Thursday night and continued some on Friday.

Thursday night's storm brought two to four inches of snow to most of the county with up to six inches reported in some areas.

All county schools closed Wednesday, Jan. 20, and remained closed through the rest of the week.

The Lawrence County Courthouse also closed Thursday and Friday due to the weather.

Road conditions remained hazardous throughout the inclement weather, especially during early morning and night hours. Multiple accidents were reported with one fatality confirmed Thursday night from a one-vehicle accident.

The National Weather Service forecasts warmer, mild weather for the remainder of the week with temperatures climbing toward the mid-50s by Friday.
