Agri Expo set for Feb. 5
The Lawrence and Randolph County Chambers of Commerce, in conjunction with the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, will present the 2016 Agri Appreciation Expo on Feb. 5 in Pocahontas.
The event, which will feature Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture Wes Ward as its keynote speaker, will also serve as the production meetings for the Lawrence and Randolph County Extension Services.
Registration for the event will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Randolph County Development Center on the Black River Technical College campus. Cinnamon rolls, catered by Mel Fender, will be served.
Ward will speak at 8:30 a.m. immediately following BRTC President Dr. Eric Turner, who will speak at 8.
Production topics will begin at 9 with Ron Baker speaking on rice and Dr. Jason Kelley speaking on wheat, corn and sorghum. Starting at 10:15, Dr. Jeremy Ross will speak about soybeans, Dr. Bob Scott will speak on weed control, Dr. Travis Faske will speak on peanuts and row crop diseases and Allen Risley will speak about Peco Foods.
There will also be special sessions on livestock and horticulture and bee keeping beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Livestock topics will include spring forage by Dr. John Jennings, herd health, cattle pregnancy testing and feed directives by Dr. Heidi Ward and forage weed control by Dr. John Boyd.
Horticulture and bee keeping speakers will be Jon Zawislak on bee keeping, Sherri Sanders on fruit production and Dr. Kim Pittcock on general vegetable production.

Door prizes will be awarded, and lunch will be served featuring fish prepared by John 3:16 and desserts prepared by Mel Fender.
