S-H defeats Salem

The Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds started strong en route to a 76-51 victory over Salem's Greyhounds in 2A-2 boys basketball action Friday night at Salem.

Sloan-Hendrix raced out to a 23-12 lead in the first quarter, and increased the lead steadily throughout the contest. The Greyhounds led 38-26 at halftime and 55-40 after three quarters before closing the game with a 21-11 run in the fourth quarter.

Lady Mustangs fall to Tuckerman in classic

The Tuckerman Lady Bulldogs defeated Hoxie 55-49 in a girls semifinal game at the Kell Classic Friday night at Swifton.

Tuckerman led 28-26 at halftime and 37-35 after three quarters.

Sydney Gillham led Hoxie with 18 points, and Becca Kopp finished with 11 points.


The Lady Mustangs dropped a 71-55 decision to the Rivercrest Lady Colts in 3A-3 Conference play on Thursday. It was the Hoxie girls first loss in conference play after a 3-0 start.

Rivercrest led 37-26 at halftime and 46-36 at the end of the third quarter.

Gillham scored 21 points to lead Hoxie, while Devyn Pollard chipped in 12 points, and Kaitlin Henson added 10.

WR sweeps Hillcrest

Walnut Ridge and Hillcrest squared off in high school basketball action Jan. 5 at Lynn.

The Walnut Ridge senior girls edged the Lady Screamin' Eagles 44-41.

Hillcrest led 11-8 after the first quarter, but the Lady Bobcats overtook them in the second period and led 22-21 at halftime. After an evenly played third quarter, the teams went into the final period with Walnut Ridge holding a slim 38-37 advantage. The Lady Cats outscored Hillcrest 6-4 in the final period to come away with the victory.

Bobcats beat Rector

Walnut Ridge defeated the Rector Cougars 62-41 in senior boys basketball Friday night at Rector.

The Bobcats led 16-7 after one quarter, but Rector closed the gap to four points, 23-19, at halftime. Walnut Ridge came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Cougars 24-13 in the third period to stretch their advantage to 47-32 entering the fourth quarter. The Cats continued pulling away in the final period to secure the win.
