Gates honored by Three Rivers

Jim Gates of Walnut Ridge was the 2015 recipient of the Three Rivers District of the Arkansas State Firefighters Association's Joe Coker Achievement award.

The honor was presented last week at the district's winter meeting at the Walnut Ridge Fire Department.

Gates, a retired assistant chief for the WRFD, served many years with Chief Coker, as well as currently serving as secretary/treasurer for both the Arkansas State Firefighters Association and The Arkansas Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

He also serves as a board member for the Firefighters Pension Review Board and the National Volunteer Fire Council and has held numerous titles within the Arkansas fire service throughout the years.

The Joe Coker Achievement award was created to honor the memory and drive for public service of the late Chief Joe Coker, a longtime chief for the Walnut Ridge Fire Department and a true trailblazer for fire service in the entire state.
