Wet Christmas for LawCo.

Lawrence County ended up with a wet Christmas instead of a white one this year, as storm systems came through the county dumping six to eight inches of rain over the past week.

The county was fortunate to avoid tornadoes that plagued other parts of the state and region, but flooding quickly became a problem and remained prevalent throughout the county on Tuesday.

Grant will help with ATOD's mission

The Lawrence County ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs) Coalition is gearing up for 2016.

The coalition plans to implement programming focused on youth prescription abuse and youth marijuana use thanks to a five-year grant received through the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department.

Boy dies after ATV accident

An ATV accident near Alicia on Dec. 23 resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy, according to the Lawrence Count Sheriff's Department.

Lawrence County deputies responded to the scene. According to the report, the 16-year-old juvenile was driving the ATV and had 22-year-old Hugo Flores as a passenger.
