LCCS celebrates Christmas
Students at the Lawrence County Cooperative School in Portia enjoyed a Christmas celebration on Thursday. Members of the Kiwanis Club of Walnut Ridge assisted with the party for the 35th year.
The Kiwanis Club provides funds so that each student can receive a gift at the party. Several Kiwanis members, along with a few of the Walnut Ridge High School Key Club members, assist with distributing the gifts at the party.
Kiwanis members donate approximately $1,500 to go toward purchasing the presents. In addition, they also make a $1,000 contribution to the school. The Kiwanis radio auction, held in the fall, helps the club raise funds to do this each year.
At the party, Kiwanis and Key Club members also sing Christmas carols with the students, and Lloyd Clark, Kiwanis president, tells the story of Jesus' birth.
Clark said, "I don't know who gets more enjoyment out of this annual event - residents and students or the Kiwanians."
