Maggie Ruth Wall

Caleb and Shana Wall of Bono have announced the birth of their first child, a daughter, born Nov. 26, 2015, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.

The baby weighed seven pounds, 15 ounces, and has been named Maggie Ruth Wall.

Grandparents are Dean and Debra Wall of Walcott and James and Sheila Bearden of Jonesboro.

Great-grandparents are Maggie Wall of Walnut Ridge and Evelyn Russell of Jonesboro.

Maggie Lee Alls

Maggie Lee Alls, 97, of Delaplaine, died Dec. 6, 2015, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

Born Aug. 11, 1918, in Tipton, Tenn., she was the daughter of Enoch and Mary West Higgins. She was of the Pentecostal belief.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Alls; a son; two daughters, Ginger McBride and Bobbie Shader; two brothers and a sister.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Alls and husband Jim, Delaplaine; four stepchildren, David Alls and wife Marie, Pocahontas, Libby Knoche, Hoxie, Ester Burleson, Camden, and Charles Alls, Booneville; over 45 grandchildren; over 75 great-grandchildren; and over 50 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral is today at 10 a.m. at McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas with Phillip Keeling officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery near Jonesboro.

Pallbearers will be Jim Alls, Richard Alls, Robert Alls, Steven Alls, Brennan Alls and Tyler Alls.

Bulah Irene Baldridge

Bulah Irene Baldridge, 93, of Ravenden, died Dec. 8, 2015, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born July 4, 1922, at Wirth, she was the daughter of Earl and Ida Bell DuBoise James. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ravenden Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by two sons, James Carson Baldridge and Rodney L. Baldridge; two brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include her husband of 73 years, Carson Baldridge, whom she married Nov. 12, 1942, in Martin Creek; a son, Ronald E. Baldridge, Garden City, Mich.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Ravenden Church of Christ with Josh Dement and Matt Downy officiating. Burial will be in Baker Cemetery, near Hardy, under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Visitation is Sunday from 1-2 p.m.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Blair Emerson Berry

Infant Blair Emerson Berry, four months, of Swifton, died Dec. 6, 2015.

Born July 24, 2015, she was the daughter of Craig and Laura Rogers Berry.

She was preceded in death by her great-great-grandfathers, Roy Rogers Sr. and Sid Smithee; a great-great-grandmother, Minnie Rogers; and great-great-grandparents, Millard and Erma Goza, and Albert and Leaffie Green.

In addition to her parents, survivors include her grandfather, Kelly Rogers, Black Rock; her grandmother, Sandra Rogers, Swifton; grandparents, James and Angela Berry, Maynard; great-grandparents, Roger and Virginia Goza, Walnut Ridge, and Roy Jr. and Geraldine Rogers, Hoxie; and a great-great-grandmother, Thelma Smithee, Walnut Ridge.

Funeral is Thursday at 2 p.m. at Dillinger Funeral Home in Newport. Burial will be in Strangers Home Cemetery.

Hershel Cope Jr.

Hershel Cope Jr., 71, of Powhatan, died Dec. 5, 2015, at UAMS in Little Rock.

Born Dec. 29, 1943, in West Plains, Mo., he worked as a coordinator at Caterpillar Company for over 30 years. He was a member of Living Word Church in Jonesboro, where he served as usher, greeter and deacon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel Sr. and Georgia Bernice Bell Cope.

Survivors include his wife, Freda Chadwick, whom he married Nov. 21, 1990; a daughter, Angie Heinzmann and husband Greg, Washington, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Rhonda Mason and husband Alvin, Batesville; three brothers, John Cope, Springfield, Mo., Jimmy Cope, Pekin, Ill., and Gary Dean Cope, West Plains, Mo.; a sister, Doris Shannon, East Peoria, Ill.; five grandchildren, Keirston Heinzmann, Jarrad Taylor, Justan Taylor, Jessan Taylor and Steven Shrum; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Friday at 2 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home with Denny Beavers officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery at West Plains, Mo.

Visitation is Friday from 1-2 p.m.

James Davis

James "J.T." Davis, 92, of Clarkston, Mich., died Dec. 1, 2015.

He was born in Walnut Ridge and lived in old Walnut Ridge until he left for the service. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, and retired from Pontiac Motors after 32 years. He was a deacon at Columbia Avenue Baptist Church in Pontiac, Mich., where he had been a member since 1952.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Graham Davis, who was a native of Lawrence County.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Thomas Davis and wife Jolene, Spring Hill, Tenn., and Jerry Davis and wife Debbie, Fort Worth, Texas; a brother, Billy Joe Davis, Walnut Ridge; and a brother-in-law, John Jones; two grandchildren, Brooke Davis and KayLee Blanchard; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Sunday at 2 p.m. at Coats Funeral Home in Waterford, Mich., with pastor Brad Adams officiating. Burial was Monday in Ottawa Park Cemetery.

John H. Ford

John H. Ford, 69, of Williford, formerly of Black Rock, died Nov. 25, 2015, at his home.

Born July 26, 1946, in Tuckerman, he was an over-the-road truck driver and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by a son, Chipper Ford; and his parents, Freeman H. and Mary E. Boaz Ford.

Survivors include three sons, Chris Ford, Michael Ford and Chuckie Ford; two daughters, Patsy Corbett and Johnna Renea Ford; two brothers, Harold Ford and wife Marilyn, and Charles Walker and wife Jean; a sister, Sue Cagle and husband Bill; six grandchildren, Betty Jo Ford, Dalton Ford, Dustin Ford, Austen Ford, Ava Corbett and Aiden Corbett; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Saturday, Nov. 28, at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Bro. Dub Holt officiating. Burial was in Trinity Cemetery at Bono.

Mary L. Gill

Mary L. Gill, 86, of San Antonio, formerly of Searcy, died Nov. 30, 2015.

Born April 27, 1929, in Imboden, she was the daughter of Roscoe and Louise Poteet. She lived in Memphis before moving to Searcy. She owned the Searcy Manor Care Facility, a long-term care home, and belonged to the Judsonia Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.G. Gill; three brothers, Robert Poteet, Charles Poteet and Rae Poteet; and a sister, Charlene Poteet.

Survivors include a son, Gregory Gill; a daughter, Brenda Levis and husband Howard; and two grandchildren, Graham Gill and Fred Alexander Smith.

Funeral was Saturday at noon at Bryan Chapel with Bro. Jake Guenrich officiating. Burial was in Hope Cemetery.

Dean Greene

Dean Greene, 71, of Hoxie, died Dec. 4, 2015, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born Sept. 30, 1944, in Jonesboro, she was a hostess for the Craighead Nursing Center and was of the Baptist belief.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dickey Joe Wicker; and her parents, Noble and Martha Lane Goodson.

Survivors include two sons, Doug Wicker and Terry Wicker; a daughter, Tammy Wilson; two brothers, Chuck Goodson and Jimmy Goodson; eight grandchildren, Brandy Vardell, Jodi Wilson, Dustin Wicker, D.J. Wicker, Wayne Wicker, Ronnie Dunbar, Patrick Dunbar and Daniel Dunbar; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Bill Legere officiating. Burial was in Old Military Cemetery.

Becky June Grooms

Becky June Grooms, 70, of Pocahontas, passed away Dec. 5, 2015.

Becky was born July 12, 1945, in Manila, to Baker and Wilma "Jackie" Baugh Johnson. She loved to crochet and quilt. She also enjoyed getting to help with her great-grandchildren, Conner, Eli and Alexis. She was affiliated with Church of Christ.

She is survived by daughter, Rhonda (James) Knee, Pocahontas, two grandchildren, Samantha (Owen) Beard, and Kylie Knee, both of Pocahontas; three great-grandchildren, Conner Beard, Elijah Beard and Alexis Beard, all of Pocahontas; three brothers, Larry Johnson and Bryan (Tonya) Johnson, both of Pocahontas, and Gary (Janet) Johnson, O'Kean.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Keim Lee Craig.

Funeral is Thursday at 10 a.m. at McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas with Joshua Dement officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Visitation is today from 5-7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Owen Beard, John Dulaney, Cole Johnson, Bryan Johnson, Jeff Craig and Tim Dunham.

Idell Hathcoat

Idell Holder Hathcoat, 96, of Ravenden, died Dec. 2, 2015, at her home.

Born May 8, 1919, in Opposition, she was the daughter of Fred and Rhoda Clements Holder. She was a member of the Opposition Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Leslie Hathcoat.

Survivors include two daughters, Debby Baldridge and husband Roger, Ravenden, and Wilma Cooper and husband Gary, Salem; a brother, Fred Gene Holder, Imboden; a sister, Dorothy Montgomery, Ponotoc, Miss.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Opposition Church of Christ. Burial was in Opposition Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Hulon Herring

Hulon Ray Herring, 83, of Cord, died Nov. 28, 2015.

Born Nov. 5, 1932, at Cord, he was the son of Warren Elbridge and Mildred Hensley Herring. He was a Christian and was of the non-denominational faith. He also served as a foster parent to many children in his lifetime.

Survivors include his former spouse and close friend, Shirley Herring Hubble; a son, Marcus Ray Herring and wife Melissa; a daughter, Josie Raye Herring Baney and husband Josh; a brother, Billy Allen Herring and wife Linda; five grandchildren, Jarmey Sallee, Warren Herring, Ashley Herring, Michael Herring and Shelby Davis; a great-grandson; and 35 foster children.

Funeral was Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Willis Funeral Service in Batesville. Burial was in Hopewell Cemetery at Cord.

Alice May Johnson

Alice May Johnson, 91, of Minturn, died Dec. 4, 2015.

Born May 24, 1924, in Bruce, Miss., she was the daughter of Eugene S. and Dulice Shankle Carter. She was a former employee of Mathis Air Condition Co., and Skil Corporation. She was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal belief.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie "Bud" Johnson, whom she married Jan. 19, 1962; a daughter, Evelyn Bedford; a son, William Reeder; a stepdaughter, Joyce Hopper; four brothers, Edward Carter, Fred Carter, Charles Carter and Thomas Carter; and two sisters, Winnie Davis and Martha Smith.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Erter and husband Jim, Urbana, Ohio; a sister, Bertha Bird, Hazen; a friend and loving companion for many years, John Niedermeier; three stepchildren, Junior Johnson and wife Glenda and Janet Mosley and husband Wedge, all of Minturn, and Donnie Johnson and wife Yolonda, Maryland; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several step grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Monday at 2 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Davis officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Frances L. Pafford

Frances L. Pafford, 89, of Hoxie, died Dec. 4, 2015, at her home.

Born Oct. 16, 1926, in Bay, she was the daughter of Alvin and Daisy Shaver Inman. She was a longtime resident of Hoxie and worked at a toy factory for several years. She was of the Church of Christ belief.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Pafford and Murl Simpson; four sisters, Naoma Todd, Emma Tillman, Lois Brooks and Rebecca Warren; and a grandson, Steven Holman.

Survivors include a daughter, Jeri Holman, Hoxie; a granddaughter, Tracy Walker; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Monday at 11 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Keith Mosher officiating. Burial was in Marked Tree Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Charles Risenhoover, Michael Walker, Fred Frogue, Patrick Coode and Hubert Workman.

Verna Mae Parsons

Verna Mae Parsons, 83, of Pocahontas, died Dec. 5, 2015, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Born Sept. 2, 1932, in Swifton, she was the daughter of Willie and Ethel Whitehead Jones.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Douglas Parsons; three brothers, Doyle Jones, W.C. Jones and Lannie Jones; and two sisters, Loretta Kinder and Beatrice Hulen.

Survivors include three sons, Billy Parsons and wife Kathy, Douglas Parsons and wife Brenda, and Timothy Parsons and wife Sandy; three daughters, Ann Richmond and husband William, Lilly Young and husband Mike, and Carolyn Benton; a sister, Susie Fallis, Swifton; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Graveside service was Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Masonic Cemetery in Pocahontas with William Richmond officiating. Fears Family Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Nora Neal Rubin, 97, of Walnut Ridge, died Dec. 5, 2015, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 29, 1918, at Tuckerman, she was the daughter of Tillman and Willie Gifford Whaley. She was a homemaker and quilter, and was of the Lutheran faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Rubin; four sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include two brothers, Joe Whaley, Hoxie, and Robin Whaley, Clover Bend; a sister, Wanda Smith, Imboden; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside service was Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Cherokee Memorial Cemetery with Bro. John Hollis officiating. Bryan Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Vivian Evelyn Smith, 93, of Walnut Ridge, passed away Dec. 2, 2015, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

Born July 9, 1922, in Hoxie, she was the daughter of Jesse and Deve Bell Moore. She was a seamstress and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Smith, on Oct. 5, 1940; a son, Dwight Smith; a daughter, Linda Richey; and two brothers, J.W. Moore and Earl Moore.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Fullen, Paragould, and Tammy Oliver, Cabot; a son-in-law, Cloyce Richey, Walnut Ridge; six grandchildren, Mark Richey and wife Karen, Brent Richey, Britney Maxwell and husband Brian, Chad Holder, Eric Holder and Briana Griffin; four great-grandchildren, Wilson Richey, Miranda Richey, Logan Richey and Brady Maxwell; a great-great-grandchild, Braxton Green; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral was Friday at 2 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Bro. Joel McMasters officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Mildred Taylor

Mildred Jones Taylor, 66, of Cave City, died Dec. 6, 2015, at her home.

Born Dec. 24, 1948, in Walnut Ridge, she was of the Christian faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Mary Jones.

Survivors include two sons, Wayne Taylor and Bill Taylor, both of Cave City; a daughter, Sandi Lancelotti, Batesville; two brothers, Robert Jones, Missouri, and Dallas Jones, Little Rock; a sister, Frankie Babbs, Mesa, Ariz.; and five grandchildren, Alex Taylor, Malina Taylor, Chase Taylor, Colt Taylor and Dixie Taylor.
