ANGEL TREE PROJECT BEGINS - Drew Cook from Walnut Ridge Elementary and Olivia Bryant from Hoxie Elementary receive candy canes and Christmas pencils from County Clerk Tina Stowers while visiting the courthouse to kick off the annual Angel Tree project. Second-graders from both schools sang Christmas carols, and their artwork is being displayed in the windows at the courthouse. The Angel Tree, which is located in the lobby of the courthouse, is now adorned with angels representing boys and girls in the county who individuals can purchase gifts for through the project. Gifts are due back by Dec. 14.

Multiple inches of rain over the weekend led to more flooding and road issues. The rain, which started Friday and continued through Monday, dropped between four and five inches of water on Lawrence County according to Weather Underground. This rain caused new damage as well as delays on road repairs still underway from the Nov. 16-18 multi-inch rain.
Some road closures have been necessary during the rains but County Judge Dale Freeman said there haven't been very many washouts.
