WR natives
write books,
to sign copies

It is noteworthy that two Walnut Ridge natives have just recently had their books published and are doing upcoming book signings in the area. The writers are Dana Chamblee Carpenter and Sarah Shell Teague, who both say they are looking forward to seeing old friends from their hometown.

Dana Chamblee Carpenter is a 1987 graduate of WRHS and has written her debut novel, "Bohemian Gospel." She will be in Jonesboro at Barnes & Noble to sign copies of her book on Thursday at 6 p.m. She also plans to talk about the writing process and read excerpts from the book, which is a historical thriller.

Pictures of the Past

This is the Dairy King in Portia, circa the 1950s. It was a very popular stop along Highway 63, especially for ice cream, and continues to be popular today for catfish and steaks, as well as ice cream. Built as the Log Cabin Cafe in the late 1940s, Elmer and Thelma Milligan changed the name to Dairy King when they purchased it in 1960 from R.E. and Maxine Lewis. Don Rorex bought the business in 1991 and rebuilt the building after a fire in the late 1990s. It is owned by Gina Rorex today.
