Mustangs advance in state playoffs
James Johnson rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Hoxie Mustangs to a 21-14 victory over the Fouke Panthers in the first round of the 3A State Football Playoffs Friday night at Crider Field. The win allows the Mustangs to host a second-round game Friday night against the Glen Rose Beavers.
Turnovers plagued the Panthers early in the contest, as they coughed up the ball twice in first quarter. Hoxie took advantage of their second takeaway when Johnson capped an 18-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown with 4:21 to play. Casey Middlecoff added the extra point and Hoxie took a 7-0 lead.
Cats' season ends with playoff loss
The Walnut Ridge Bobcats lost to the Des Arc Eagles 44-0 in the first round of the 2A State Playoffs Friday night at Des Arc.
The Bobcats end the season with a 6-5 overall record and were 5-2 in 2A-3 Conference play.
Hillcrest records homecoming wins
Dyllan Nunnally and Tyson Durham combined for 52 points to lead the Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles to 62-49 homecoming victory over Crowley's Ridge Academy on Nov. 11 at Lynn.
Hillcrest built a 16-9 lead in the first quarter and led 31-16 at halftime.
Lady Hounds beat Pangburn
Sloan-Hendrix's Brittany Gosha hit a three-point basket as time expired to give the Lady Greyhounds a 50-47 win over Pangburn in senior girls basketball Friday night at Pangburn.
Alyssa Nichols led Sloan-Hendrix with 24 points, including two free throws to tie the game with 20 seconds remaining. Gosha finished with 12 points.
S-H defeats Pangburn
The Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds defeated the Pangburn Tigers 93-65 in the 2A-2 Conference opener Friday night at Pangburn.
Sloan-Hendrix jumped out to a 22-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and stretched the advantage to 53-39 at halftime.
