WR City Council moves
forward with dog ordinance
The Walnut Ridge City Council approved the second reading of a new city dog ordinance during Monday night's meeting.
The council amended section eight of the ordinance pertaining to dog registration fees. The fees were adjusted to $5 annually for spayed and neutered dogs and $15 annually for unaltered dogs. A $25 lifetime registration will also be available for spayed and neutered dogs only.
Aldermen also discussed if there needs to be a fee exemption for certified service dogs based on a citizen's recommendation. City Attorney Nancy Hall and Alderman Wendell Jones will review options for such an exemption to present at the next meeting.
Also at the meeting, the council:
voted 5-2 to send a proposed rezoning of property at East Poplar and Northeast Fourth back to the planning commission. The rezoning of the property to R3 died at a previous meeting due to a lack of a second.
approved the paying of debt owed on three police vehicles in full, $26,985.22. Two of the vehicles on this loan have incurred high maintenance expenses and the council agreed it was in the city's best interest to retire the debt and look into getting something that will better serve the department.
approved a resolution ordering the razing and removal of condemned property at 904 Southeast Second Street.
approved end-of-year bonuses at $125 for full time, $75 for part time and $50 for volunteers.
increased mowing fees to $100 per hour to be assessed to the property owner in violation of city code enforcement.
approved a resolution contracting Ryan Cooper as city prosecutor for 2016.
reviewed a proposed 2016 budget.
