Chamber celebrates Lawrence
This year's Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce annual banquet paid tribute to the 200th anniversary of Lawrence County. The theme was "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow: Celebrating Lawrence County 1815-2015.

The banquet, held Thursday evening at The Studio in downtown Walnut Ridge, featured Tom Dillard, who is one of Arkansas' leading historians, who spoke about some of the county's more colorful and interesting historic citizens.
Hoxie sets new City Hall hours
After some research on citizen traffic during City Hall hours, Mayor Lanny Tinker discovered that more people came during the lunch hour when the office was closed than in the 4-5 p.m. work hour.
This has prompted him to change office hours to 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and remain open during the lunch hour. The hours are to go into effect today.
New jail to take two years,
With a new sales tax approved, the SouthBuild Team, the firm commissioned to develop plans for a new county jail complex, will move forward with the next stages of a schedule set during meetings held in August.

Sheriff Jeff Yates said he is looking forward to getting the jail built.
WR City Council moves
The Walnut Ridge City Council approved the second reading of a new city dog ordinance during Monday night's meeting.

The council amended section eight of the ordinance pertaining to dog registration fees. The fees were adjusted to $5 annually for spayed and neutered dogs and $15 annually for unaltered dogs. A $25 lifetime registration will also be available for spayed and neutered dogs only.
man dies in
A two-vehicle accident at 5:27 p.m. on Nov. 10 resulted in the death of a Smithville man, according to Cpl. Benjamin Rapert with the Arkansas State Police.
The preliminary fatal crash summary stated that Marshall McDonald, 56, of Smithville was traveling westbound on Highway 412 near Walnut Ridge, at the overpass of U.S. 67, in a 2001 Chevrolet Lumina.
