Pictures of the Past

Fred and Nellie Adams sit in a buggy in front of their new home on 1st Street in Black Rock. Built in 1909, it was destroyed by fire in the 1940s. The third story of this magnificent house was often used for grand parties and dances. This photo, along with others of the Black Rock area, will be on display at the Black Rock Museum during the Foothills Celebration this weekend. (Pictures of the Past is a cooperative effort of The Times Dispatch and the Lawrence County Historical Society. Readers are encouraged to submit historic photos.)
