Mustangs blank Piggott, 28-0
Three second-half touchdowns enabled the Hoxie Mustangs to pull away from the Piggott Mohawks for a 28-0 victory in 3-3A Conference football action Friday night at Crider Field.
Hoxie took an early lead when quarterback James Johnson passed 38 yards to Austen Blocker with 6:49 remaining in the first quarter. Casey Middlecoff kicked the extra point for a 7-0 Mustang lead.
Defensive play dominated the rest of the first half and the teams went to halftime with Hoxie maintaining their 7-0 advantage.
The Mustangs extended the lead on quarterback James Johnson's 69-yard scamper. Middlecoff's PAT pushed Hoxie's lead to 14-0 with 4:15 to play in the third period.
Hoxie put the game out of reach with two scores in the fourth quarter. Dylan Littlejohn caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from Johnson at the 9:22 mark of the period. Diamani Davis ran for an 18-yard touchdown with 3:35 to play in the game. Middlecoff added PATs after each touchdown.
Johnson was three-of-seven passing, for 51 yards and two touchdowns. He was also the Mustangs' leading rusher, with 183 yards and one touchdown on 22 carries.
Davis finished with 100 yards rushing and a touchdown on 14 attempts. Gunner Riggs added 10 yards on two carries, and Blocker had one carry for nine yards.
Blocker had one reception for 38 yards and a touchdown. Littlejohn had one catch for seven yards and a touchdown, and Samuel Hatfield caught one pass for six yards.
Hoxie is now 7-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play. The Mustangs will close out the regular season against the Manila Lions Thursday night at Manila. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
