Bobcats defeat Midland, 33-6
A four-touchdown performance from Luke Harper highlighted the Walnut Ridge Bobcats' 33-6 football victory over the Midland Mustangs Friday night at Sexton Field.
Walnut Ridge scored the only points of the first quarter on Wesley Friend's six-yard run with 10:35 to play in the period.
The Bobcats took control of the game in the second quarter, scoring 27 unanswered points to move out to a 33-0 halftime lead.
Will Weir passed 18 yards to Harper on the first play of the quarter to stretch the Cats' lead to 12-0. Weir passed to Friend for the conversion and a 14-0 Bobcat lead.
Harper scored on a 17-yard run at the 8:24 mark to make the score 20-0. Harper added a 14-yard touchdown run with 3:23 to play in the quarter to stretch the lead to 26-0. Harper's final touchdown came on a seven-yard run with 1:33 to play before halftime. Chaz Burgin kicked the PAT to send the Bobcats to the locker room with a 33-0 lead.
A defensive touchdown by Midland in the fourth quarter set the final score.
Weir attempted just four passes on the night, completing two, for 37 yards and a touchdown.
Colin Phillips led Walnut Ridge in rushing with 89 yards on 10 carries, while Chaise Moore added 72 yards on 10 carries. Harper finshed with 52 yards on six carries, and Weir gained 47 yards on six attempts. Friend carried six times for 37 yards, and Tristan Hoffman had 11 yards on two carries.
Harper had two receptions for 37 yards.
The victory boosted the Bobcats' record to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in 2A-3 Conference play. Walnut Ridge will be on the road this week, when they travel to Salem for a conference showdown with the Greyhounds. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
