hangar rental rates
The Walnut Ridge Regional Airport Commission voted to increase the cost of rent on certain hangars during its Monday meeting.
Chair Don Cavenaugh said the incremental increase, roughly $25 a month, will bring in a little extra revenue while keeping prices competitive with other nearby airports.
A uniform lease prepared by Bob Johnson with General Aviation Consulting Services was accepted by the commission. The new leases set monthly rates at $200 for the newest hangars built within the last 10 years, $150 for those built in the 1990s and $72 for the hangars older than that. The new lease also specifies a flat rate $25 fee for late payments.
Cavenaugh said that he hopes to spend time with each lease agreement the airport holds and rework them as they come up for renewal. He hopes to have revenue from leases and fuel sales up enough to get the airport at a break even point, which would allow for revenue from the airport's farmland leases to supplement repair and maintenance work.
As the airport prepares its 2016 budget, commissioners have been asked to develop a list of any projects they would like to see included. A proposed budget will be presented at the November meeting.
Also at the meeting, Clark General Contractors, Inc. requested a 30-45 day delay on the notice to proceed for one of its contracts. Currently the company holds two paving contracts with the airport and C.L. Clark said it would benefit his team to do one job at a time in order to learn the process and properly replace the slabs.
Airport Engineer Stacy Morris said due to the time of year, he sees no problem with delaying the 150 working day project as the team would have to work during the colder winter months in either scenario. The commission had no issues with the delay.
In other business, commissioners authorized Airport Manager Michelle Anthony to have repairs done on a building currently leased by Danny West. The repairs would be to approximately four leaking vents. Anthony will secure a contract providing the cost does not exceed $2,000.
