Benton Roy Abbott

Aaron and Chelsea Abbott of Springdale have announced the birth of a son, born on Aug. 24, 2015, at Willow Creek Women's Hospital in Springdale.

The baby weighed seven pounds, 10 ounces, and has been named Benton Roy Abbott. He has one sister, Carobeth, two.

Grandparents are Larry and Jeannie Abbott of Walnut Ridge and Kevin and Cynthia Eubanks of Springdale.

Great-grandparents are Erma Frisbee of Walnut Ridge, Mary Abbott of Hoxie, Mary Douglass of Little Rock and Bob and Doris Eubanks of Benton.

Nash Andrew Arnold

Andy and Courtney Arnold of Ash Flat, formerly of Walnut Ridge, have announced the birth of a son, born Sept. 8, 2015, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center.

The baby weighed six pounds, 10 ounces and has been named Nash Andrew Arnold. He has two siblings, Knox, three, and Adelyn, two.

Grandparents are Dennis and Leigh Ann Sublett of Hardy and Yvonne and Mike Arnold of Cabot.

Great-grandfather is Bill Pierce of Cherokee Village.

Chadwick ~ Estes

Jim Chadwick of Walnut Ridge and Denise Chadwick of Hardy have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Kelsey Denise Hurst Chadwick, to Nickolas Braxton Estes, son of Tracy Estes of Walnut Ridge and Carroll Estes of Norman, Okla.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Carolyn Allen of Hardy, Alice Chadwick of St. Louis, the late Silas Hurst and the late Jimmy Chadwick.

She is a graduate of Walnut Ridge High School.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Linda Estes of Norman, Okla., and the late Sonny and Faye Cunningham. He is a graduate of Walnut Ridge High School.

The couple will exchange vows on Saturday, at 5 p.m. at The Gazebo at Cypress Falls in Bono. All family and friends are invited to attend.

Cobble ~ Ragsdale

Joyce Dobbs of Walnut Ridge has announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of her daughter, Lacey Natasha Cobble, to Justin Wayne Ragsdale, son of Larry and Connie Ragsdale of Black Rock and Lisa and Kurt Weiand of Hardy.

The bride-elect is also the daughter of the late Rodney Dobbs and is the granddaughter of Pam and Danny Smith, Kathy Dobbs and Randy Cobble, all of Walnut Ridge.

She is a graduate of Walnut Ridge High School.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Earl and Diane Ragsdale and Brilla Hall, all of Black Rock; Cathy and Randy Boyd of Ravenden and Terry and Holly Darnall of Jonesboro.

He is a graduate of Black Rock High School.

The couple will exchange vows on Sept. 26, 2015, at 3 p.m. at United Free Will Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge. All family and friends are invited to attend.

Obituaries

Dorthy Mae Russell Brand

Dorthy Mae Russell Brand, 91, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Sept. 9, 2015, in Walnut Ridge.

Born May 10, 1924, in Powhatan, she was the daughter of George Washington Russell and Mary Elizabeth Mashburn Russell. She married Clarence Hubert Brand on March 20, 1943. The couple was blessed with 10 children.

Mrs. Brand spent her life as a farmer's wife, homemaker and devoted mother. She raised her children in the Assembly of God faith and upon her passing was a member of the People's Faith Tabernacle in Hoxie. She loved to garden, cook, quilt, read, play cards, and serve the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three brothers, Troy Eugene Russell, Albert Redman Russell and James Harlen Russell; two sisters, Lola Bee McPike and Allie Marie Voyles; and one daughter-in-law, Bonnie Carol Brand.

She is survived by six sons, Daniel (Ruth Ann) Brand of Shirley, James (Donna) Brand of Bay, Bill (Linda) Brand of Jonesboro, Ron (Cindy) Brand of Jonesboro, Jack (Helen) Brand of Imboden, and Roger (Janet) Brand of Walnut Ridge; four daughters, Mary (Michael) Nutt, of Jonesboro, Judy (Ronnie) Gosha of Imboden, Carlene (Glendal) Floyd of Walnut Ridge, and Sandra (Steve) Knox of Osceola; 11 granddaughters, Kathy, Sherry, Beverly, Becky, Tina, Misty, Jennifer, Rhonda, Stephanie, Vicki and Kristie; nine grandsons, Danny, Jason, Ronnie, Brian, Anthony, Mark, Matthew, Kevin and Josh serving as pallbearers. She is also survived by 34 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Meredia Simpson of Portia.

Funeral was Saturday at 10 a.m. at the People's Faith Tabernacle in Hoxie with Pastor Roger Brand officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Emery Kaylynn Foley

Emery Kaylynn Foley, five-week old baby girl of Spencer and Morgan Emery Foley, passed from this life on Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at NEA Baptist Hospital.

Emery was born into this world on Aug. 2, 2015, in Jonesboro, and even though her life was short on this earth, the love she received from her family would last many life times.

She was preceded in death by paternal great-grandparents, Dot and Gladys Foley, Zaniel Haney, Johnnie and Henrietta Massey Stone.

She is survived by her loving parents, Spencer and Morgan Emery Foley of Lake City; maternal grandparents, Mark and Kristin Emery of Lake City; paternal grandparents, Ben and Lisa Foley of Walnut Ridge; maternal uncle, M.J. and Kaley Poe Emery of Lake City; paternal aunts, Brittany and Kyle George of Corning, and Shyanne Foley of Walnut Ridge; maternal great grandparents, Rick and Janet Brewer of Jonesboro, and Melton and Faye Emery of Caraway; two first cousins, Jaggar and Blaze George of Corning; and a host of other family.

Funeral service was Saturday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Greg Rainwater officiating. Interment was in Lake City Cemetery, with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.

Serving as pallbearers were Garrett Weaver and Kyle George. Honorary pallbearers were the Manila junior high and senior high girls basketball teams.

Flossie Turner Huckaba

Flossie Turner Huckaba, 95, of Thida (Hazen) died Sept. 12, 2015.

Born Nov. 11, 1919, she was the daughter of Robert and Ruth Perry Turner. She was a homemaker and a member of Backland Free Will Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Huckaba; two daughters, Colema Coyle and Lana Huckaba; a brother, Leslie Turner; and a grandchild, Clayton Coyle.

Survivors include a son, Doug Huckaba and wife Sue, Mablevalle; a son-in-law, Lamar Coyle; two grandchildren, Karen Tipton and Nick Huckaba; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral was Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Backland Free Will Baptist Church. Burial was in Maple Springs Cemetery. Dillinger Funeral Home of Newport had charge of arrangements.

Stella Mae Joseph

Stella Mae McDaniel Joseph, 85, of Stockton, Mo., died Sept. 13, 2015, at her home.

Born Jan. 4, 1930, in Saffell, she was the daughter of Lem and Buella Perrin McDaniel. She was a longtime resident of Saffell and a factory worker. She was of the Methodist belief.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob" Joseph; and two brothers, Carl McDaniel and Tilman McDaniel.

Survivors include a sister, Genell Cook and husband Russell; two sisters-in-law, Peggy McDaniel and Marie McDaniel; and two nieces, Modine and Nova Gene.

Graveside service is Friday at 11 a.m. at Lincoln-Ward Cemetery at Saffell under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.

Mary Sue Lovelady

Mary Sue Lovelady, 75, of Walnut Ridge, died Sept. 15, 2015, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

Born Feb. 15, 1940, in Walnut Ridge, she was the daughter of Ralph and Vera Tate Hibbard. She was a homemaker and a member of Smithville Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Lovelady, whom she married March 14, 1958; two sons, Scott Lovelady, Paragould, and Michael Lovelady, Smithville; a daughter, Lisa Tennison, Hoxie; a sister, Jean Bookout, Beebe; a brother, Larry Hibbard, Portia; five grandchildren, Josh Lovelady, Jacob Lovelady, Jordan Lovelady, Taylor Tennison and Katie Loftin; and a great-granddaughter.

Graveside service is today at 10 a.m. at Duty Cemetery with Bro. Keith Marlin officiating. Bryan Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Family will serve as pallbearers.

Carolyn Benn Patterson

Carolyn Benn Patterson, 81, of Benton, died Sept. 10, 2015.

Born March 19, 1934, in Portia, she was the daughter of Kent and Mabel Benn. She graduated from Clover Bend High School as valedictorian, and attended Williams Baptist College. She received her BS degree from Blue Mountain College in Mississippi and her MSE from Henderson University.

She taught in the Benton public schools for 36 years and was a lifetime member of the Arkansas Retired Teachers' Association. She was a member of Highland Heights Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school most of her adult life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Patterson; a brother, Kent Benn Jr.; four sisters, Fay Mildred Walling, Corrinne Karapcik, Clara Pegues and Ruth Tipton; and six sisters-in-law, Yolanda Benn, Barbara Mouser, Opal Campbell, Pauline Hardy, Loyce Reed and Ruth Swindle Wann.

Survivors include a son, Phillip Patterson and wife Kim, Siloam Springs; three sisters, Mary Graddy, Walnut Ridge, Joyce Lees, Naples, Fla., and Albertine Turley, Watsonville, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Virginia Cato, Cape Girardeau, Mo.; and two grandsons, Brent Bright and Zach Bright.

A memorial service was held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Highland Heights Baptist Church in Benton. Ashby Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Food Bank, Highland Heights Baptist Church's Food Pantry or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Sibyl M. Smith

Sibyl M. Smith, 92, of Jonesboro, died Sept. 5, 2015, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Born May 25, 1923, in Powhatan, she was the daughter of Charlie and Gladys Hurst Clark.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Robert Dawson; four daughters, Gloria Walker, Delores Stokes, Marilyn Clark and Sharon DeMahy; and a son, Michael Dawson.

Survivors include six sons, Richard Dawson, Seattle, Butch Dawson and wife Virginia, Biloxi, Miss., Larry Dawson and wife Barbara, Colorado Springs, Chuck Dawson and Keith Dawson, both of Jonesboro, and Ken Dawson and wife Lori, Auburn, Mass.; a daughter, Linda James and husband Jackie, Jonesboro; two brothers, Dale Clark, Oregon, and Frank Clark, California; a sister, Nina Peeler, Jonesboro; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m. at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Freddy Bowen officiating. Burial was in Keller's Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Scott James, Tim Dawson, C.J. LeBlanc, Steven Prudhomme, Grant Prudhomme and Jackie James.
