Ideal weather enhances Thumperthon 5K
Weather conditions were near perfect for Saturday's fifth annual Thumperthon 5K held at Walnut Ridge's Stewart Park. "You couldn't have asked for better weather," said Fran Cavenaugh, one of the race organizers.
The race is a fundraiser for the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society and is held in honor of automobile dealer Don Cavenaugh of Walnut Ridge and in memory of his canine running partner, Thumper.
Fran, who is Don's wife, said there were approximately 130 runners and walkers in the event, which raised approximately $7,000. Many of the participants brought their dogs to join them for the race.
She added that changes are planned for next year to make the 5K bigger and better and to bring more people to Walnut Ridge.
