Raegan Lynnlee Dorton

Matt Dorton and Jillian Graham of Bono have announced the birth of a daughter, born on Sept. 2, 2015, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed six pounds, eight ounces, and has been named Raegan Lynnlee Dorton.

Grandparents are Robert and Janis Graham of Jonesboro, Nathan and Vickie Romine of Minturn and Bruce and Linda Dorton of Walnut Ridge.

Great-grandparents are Buck and Mable Jones of Hoxie.

Weddings

Swann ~ Starr

Allison Starr and Josh Swann were united in marriage during a 4 p.m. ceremony on June 27, 2015, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Pocahontas.

The double-ring ceremony was officiated by Father Tom Marks of Little Rock.

Parents of the bride are Ben and Karen Starr of Smithville. Parents of the groom are Buster Swann and Barbara Swann of Pocahontas.

The bride was escorted by her father. She wore an ivory strapless beaded layer lace fit and flare Oleg Cassini and a fingertip veil. She carried a bouquet of ivory and mint roses.

Matron of honor was Nicole Trublood, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Amber Martin, cousin of the bride, Sara Beth Devazier and Mallory Femino.

Serving as best man was Justin Martin. Groomsmen were Nick Alphin, Dane Hutsell and Michael Hogan.

Ringbearer was Ryder Starr, nephew of the bride, and the flower girl was Addison Shipley, niece of the groom.

A reception and dance followed the ceremony at The Studio in Walnut Ridge. The meal was catered by Mel Fender of Walnut Ridge.

Lisa Earnheart, aunt of the bride, and Janet Harper served as coordinators at the wedding. Kim Ray, aunt of the bride, and Ina Benson served as coordinators of the reception.

Following a honeymoon cruise to the Bahamas, they are making their home in Pocahontas.

Shirley June Blankenship

Shirley June Blankenship, 78, of Walnut Ridge, died Sept. 3, 2015, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born June 11, 1937, at Punkin Center, she was the daughter of Jess and Mary Price Fears.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Blankenship, on April 1, 1999, whom she married Nov. 17, 1959; a son, John Blankenship; a daughter, Patty Blankenship and her adopted parents, Edwin and Inez Bibb; and five half-brothers and half-sisters, Alma Fears Huffman, Bertha Fears Jetton, Troy Fears, Mary Shadd Garment and Buddy Shadd.

Survivors include three children, Charles Blankenship and wife Leslie, Smithville, Nancy Smith and husband David, Pocahontas, and Clay Blankenship, Walnut Ridge; two brothers, Paul Bibb and Glenn Bibb, both of Pocahontas; a sister, Frances Olene Walker, Paragould; eight grandchildren, Shantel Archer, Emily Smith, Katie Blankenship, Jacob Blankenship, Cheryl Blankenship, Gavin Blankenship, Matthew Blankenship and Jed Blankenship; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Monday at 10 a.m. at the Cole-Kissee-Blankenship Cemetery near Walnut Ridge with pastor Steve Alexander officiating. Bryan Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Jeff Reese, Jerry Gill, Brian Alexander, Bill Alexander, Gary Mashburn and Gary Bibb.

Roxie Corene Buckner

Roxie Corene Buckner, 90, of Pocahontas, died Sept. 6, 2015.

Born March 4, 1925, in White County, she was the daughter of Robert and Myra Handcock Lawson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Brance Buckner; a son, Ronald Buckner; two brothers, Dick Lawson and Alfond Lawson; and two sisters, Margie Elliot and Dorothy Solada.

Survivors include three children, Anna Jane Cagle and husband Dallas, Walnut Ridge, Dounld Dene Buckner, and MaraLee Kildow and husband Perry, all of Pocahontas; five grandchildren, Melissa Collins, Jimmy Cagle, Brance Cagle, Heather Vandergriff and Hillary Knoche; 12 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-great-grandchildren; and several step grandchildren.

Graveside service was Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Masonic Cemetery in Pocahontas. McNabb Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Mark Anthony Davis

Mark Anthony Davis, 48, of Pocahontas, died Sept. 4, 2015.

Born Aug. 4, 1967, in Pocahontas, he owned and operated American Tree Service for over 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Davis and Erma Jean Guerin Davis Griffith; and a brother, Benny Ray Davis.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Cathy Horn Davis; two daughters, Grace (Derek) Pitcher, Walnut Ridge, and Ann Davis, Pocahontas; a stepdaughter, Ami (Brent) Boyles, Imboden; three brothers, Gary (Renee) Davis, Eau Claire, Wis., Vic (Shaun Barnes) Davis, Boulder, Colo., and Phillip (Kippy) Davis, Rector; and three grandchildren, Halei, Eli and Mallori.

Private service is under the direction of Fears Family Funeral Home of Pocahontas. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery at Imboden.

Lillie May Dickerson

Lillie May Dickerson, 72, of Hoxie, died Sept. 6, 2015.

Born Nov. 21, 1943, she was the daughter of Robert and Dollie George Dickerson of Hoxie. She was a lifelong resident of Lawrence County and was a member of the Gospel Chapel in Jonesboro.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Ralph Dickerson, Edward Dickerson and Charles Dickerson.

Survivors include three sisters, Mary Catron and husband Duane Sr., Bono, Ruth Maples and husband James, Hoxie, and Evelyn Maples, Coffman; and a brother, William Dickerson, Loves Park, Ill.

A memorial service was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Duane Catron Jr. officiating.

Wayne Edward Eldridge

Wayne Edward Eldridge, 71, of Hoxie, died Sept. 3, 2015, at the NEA Baptist Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born July 5, 1944, in Long Beach, Calif., he was the son of Woodrow and Sylvia Eldridge. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include two daughters, Erica Eldridge and Desiree Eldridge, both of Walnut Ridge; a brother, Dennis Mangrum, Ravenden; and five grandchildren, Erica, Eli, Rhyder, Kaylee and Emily.

Visitation was Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home.

James Alfred McMillon Jr.

James Alfred McMillon Jr., 74, of Hoxie, died Sept. 6, 2015, at his home.

Born Sept. 25, 1940, in Hoxie, he was a lineman and serviceman for the Ark-Mo Power Company for several years. He served in the National Guard and was of the Protestant faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Alfred Sr. and Lillie Pickney McMillon; and a sister, Devona Sue McMillon.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Lawson McMillon, whom he married Feb. 27, 1960; two sisters, Shirley Million and husband Hamil, Jonesboro, and Beverly Summers and husband Curtis, Arlington, Tenn.; and a brother, Bob McMillon and wife Peggy, Walnut Ridge.

Funeral is Thursday at 2 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Lanny Million and Brad Summers officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Webb, Steve Shelton, Riley Lawson, Joe Bryan Richardson, Matt Summers and Brian Summers.

Visitation is Thursday from noon until time of the service.

Connie Morgan

Connie Morgan, 64, of Hardy, died Sept. 2, 2015, at UAMS in Little Rock from injuries sustained in a house fire.

Born Aug. 10, 1951, in the Lone Oak community in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Clyde Doyle Pickett and Kathryn Georgene Sanford Pickett.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clyde Pickett; two sisters, Patty Pickett and Donna Pickett Callahan; and a brother, Doyle Pickett.

Survivors include two daughters, Holly Morgan, Cherokee Village, and Heather Biggers and husband Greg, Weiner; a son, Adam Durham, Jonesboro; her mother, Georgene Pickett; two sisters, Darlene Dearen and husband Gene, Imboden; and Linda Nixon and husband Bill, West Plains, Mo.; two brothers, Ken Pickett, Conway, and Phillip Pickett and wife Angie, Highland; and five grandchildren, Hannah Rowsey, Daniel Rowsey, Taft Howard, Charlie Durham and Walker Durham.

A memorial service was held Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. at Wortham Funeral Home's Oak Hill Chapel in Hardy. Private burial was in Hope Cemetery at Imboden.

Robert Ricky Morris

Robert Ricky Morris, a resident of Walnut Ridge, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro after a lengthy illness.

He was born Nov. 4, 1955, in Monette, to Woodrow and Dixie Morris. In the early 70s, Ricky worked security for Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. He later worked in construction for Ecodyne Cooling Towers of Houston. He loved making jewelry to sell or give away.

His best friend, Ted Heard, was like a brother to Rick, and helped him in every way possible. Another good friend was Joey Ballard of Watervliet, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Dixie Rose Gross Morris; a sister, Penny Matthews; three brothers, Dickey, Danny and Jacky Morris.

He is survived by a sister, Pamela Rogers, Walnut Ridge; six brothers, James Lee Morris, Bangor, Mich., Derward Morris and wife Patsy, and Dennis Morris, all of Paragould, Scotty Morris and wife Shelvie, Hoxie, and Tommy Lynn Morris and Teddy Gene Morris, both of Walnut Ridge; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Rick will be missed by all his relatives and friends.

A memorial of his life will be held at a later date.

Charles Edward Parsons

Charles Edward Parsons, 91, of Walnut Ridge, died Sept. 7, 2015, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Born Aug. 2, 1924, in Marked Tree, he was the son of Sidney and Edna Addie Warner Parsons. He was a farmer and a member of Hoxie First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Louise Tate Parsons, whom he married Oct. 28, 1951; two sons, Rickey Lynn Parsons and Charles David Parsons; a daughter, Margaret Ann Smith; three brothers, Chester Parsons, Junior Parsons and Chelsey Parsons; and four sisters, Mary Mathews, Patsy Carley, Mabel Lamb and Alice Gillaspie.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Dickson and husband James, Walnut Ridge, and Addie Willfond and husband Bo, Alicia; two sons, Edward Parsons and wife Cathy, Hoxie, and Jerry Parsons and wife Pam, Pocahontas; two brothers, John Parsons and wife Barbara, Hot Springs, and Ray Parsons and wife Marsha, Portia; a sister, Beatrice Manning, Rock Falls, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Friday at 10 a.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Bro. James Hines officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Chris Dickson, Tyler Dickson, Dylan Dickson, Logan Dickson, Anthony Willfond, Caleb Hines, Michael Parsons, Larry Willfond and Jacob Hines.

Barbara J. Penn

Barbara J. "Bobby" Penn, 84, of Leaf River, Ill., died Aug. 29, 2015, at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, Ill.

Born March 21, 1931, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Ozro and Effie Lingo Goodwin. She was a 1948 graduate of WRHS. She worked for Kysor in Byron, Ill., for 22 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe T. Penn, on Jan. 27, 1990, whom she married July 1, 1949, in Lynn; a daughter, Karla; a brother, a sister, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Survivors include four daughters, Beth Hernandez and Lorna Parker and husband Jeff, all of Leaf River, Ill., Julie Cornelius and husband Steve, Clinton, Wis., and Karen Penn, Rockford, Ill.; a son, Steve Penn and wife Nancy, Leaf River, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild on the way.

Funeral was Thursday at 11 a.m. at Finch Funeral Home in Mt. Morris, Ill. Burial was in Silver Creek Cemetery.

Norman Reed

Norman Reed, 71, of Saffell, died Sept. 6, 2015.

Born May 3, 1944, in Tupelo, Ark., he worked as a farm laborer in his early years, and was known for his work as a mechanic for 37 years. He was a member of Mt. Harmony Free Will Baptist Church at Saffell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harlan and Dola Mae Reed Riley; two brothers, Larry Reed and Kenneth Reed; and a sister, Glendaline Riley.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Huskey Reed, whom he married April 4, 1961; a daughter, Melissa Mae Callahan and husband Danny, Strawberry; two sons, Norman Lavon "Sonny" Reed and wife Phat, Cadiz, Ky., and Ricky Don Reed, Oak Grove, Ky.; a brother, Billy Joe Bice and wife Linda, Leavenworth, Kan.; two grandchildren, Dusty Northcutt and Haley Callahan Hilton; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral is today at 2 p.m. at Mt. Harmony Free Will Baptist Church in Saffell with R.J. Akers officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Ward Cemetery. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Gwendolen Rees-Jones Shell

Gwendolen Rees-Jones Shell, 89, of Conway, died Aug. 30, 2015.

Born March 10, 1926, in Miami, Okla., she was the daughter of Rev. David and Etna King Rees-Jones.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John Robert Shell, who was a former interim pastor at the Presbyterian Church in Walnut Ridge.

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Jane Shell Hanschu and husband Dan, Neosho, Mo.; three sons, Martin William Shell and wife Lee Ann, Los Altos, Calif., Paul Calvin Shell, North Little Rock, and Philip Andrew Shell and wife Leah, Little Rock; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life was held Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Conway with Rev. Mike Ulasewich officiating. Burial was Friday in Shell Cemetery in Grant County. Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Conway had charge of arrangements.

Lowell Leroy Spurlock

Lowell Leroy Spurlock, 89, of Walnut Ridge, died Sept. 3, 2015.

Born April 29, 1926, in Bay, he was the son of A.D. and Hettie Isbell Spurlock. A lifelong resident of Lawrence County, he was a retired farmer and a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Walnut Ridge.

He was preceded in death by a son, Calvin Spurlock; a sister, Violet Belk; and a brother, Floyd Spurlock.

Survivors include his wife, Maudie Spurlock, whom he married Sept. 16, 1950; a daughter, Monica Pierce, Clarksville; six sisters, Lela Dann and Mary Ann Patterson, both of St. Louis, Ruth Vaughn, Walnut Ridge, Margarett Brewer, Cash, Bonnie Swan, Kansas City, Mo., and Lois Collins, Lafayette, Ind.; a brother, Samuel Spurlock, Jonesboro; two grandchildren, Sueta Loyd and Terry Glidewell; four great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Saturday at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Bro. Dale Hughart officiating.
