Garrett and Brittany Burgess of Delaplaine have announced the birth of their first child, a son, born Aug. 20, 2015, at NEA Baptist in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed six pounds, nine ounces, and has been named Cason Reed Burgess.

Grandparents are Eddie and Linda Hembrey of Walnut Ridge and Shawn and Ginger Burgess of Delaplaine.

Great-grandparents are Gary and Leta Burgess and Alice Cleveland, all of Delaplaine.

Great-great-grandmother is Elwanda Gates of Delaplaine.

Elliana Rose Garcia

Alberto and Holly Garcia have announced the birth of their first child, a daughter, born Aug. 29, 2015, at UAMS in Little Rock.

The baby weighed three pounds, 15 ounces, and has been named Elliana Rose Garcia.

Grandparents are Kenny "James" and Teresa Whitehead of Jonesboro, formerly of Walnut Ridge, Maria Garcia of Decatur, Ala., and Jesus Garcia of Farr, Texas.

Great-grandmother is Geneva Whitehead of Jonesboro, formerly of Walnut Ridge.

Rebecca Averie Palmer

Bryar and Amber Palmer of Piggott have announced the birth of their first child, a daughter, born July 8, 2015, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed eight pounds and has been named Rebecca Averie Palmer.

Grandparents are Rebecca Burleson and Mark Johnson, both of Powhatan, and Lanny and Shawn Palmer of Paragould.

Great-grandparents are Freda Akins of Pocahontas, Dale Wofford Sr. of Rector, Belinda Harris of Brownwood, Texas, and Deral and Linda Palmer of Victoria, Texas.

Jackson Lee Webb

Bartley and Megan Webb of Springdale have announced the birth of their first child, a son, born Aug. 25, 2015, at the Willow Creek Women's Hospital in Springdale.

The baby weighed nine pounds, nine ounces, and has been named Jackson Lee Webb.

Grandparents are Perry and Rebecca Webb of Springdale, formerly of Walnut Ridge, and David Herring of Dubois, Pa., and the late Sandy Herzing.

Great-grandparents are Bob and Mary Ann Jackson of Walnut Ridge.

Edgar Earl Adams

Edgar Earl Adams, 76, of Wylie, Texas, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died Aug. 19, 2015, in Plano, Texas.

Born Feb. 12, 1939, in Rector, he was the son of Olan and Mildred Kuykendall Adams.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Hulan Adams, Max Adams, J.C. Adams and Roy Adams; and a sister, Mary Nell Peppers.

Survivors include his wife, Sondra Carolyn Hardin Adams; a son, Gordon Adams, San Diego; two daughters, Holly Adams, Dallas, and Hope Adams, Wylie, Texas; two brothers, Paul Adams, Missouri, and DeWayne Adams, Arkansas; two sisters, Imadel Dacus and Sarah Christian, both of California; and two grandchildren, Christal Adams and Alicia Adams Dillard.

Funeral was Thursday, Aug. 27, at 11 a.m. at Allen Funeral Home in Wylie, Texas. Burial was in DFW National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to American National Bank, 301 S. Hwy. 78, Wylie, TX 75098, in the name of Hope Adams.

Ludye Odell Arnold

Ludye Odell Arnold, 67, of Houston, Ark., died Aug. 26, 2015.

Born Sept. 13, 1947, in Walnut Ridge, he worked for Tyson Hatchery and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Odell and Freda Nadean Ashlock Arnold.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Pierce; two sons, Tim Arnold and wife Stacy, Trumann, and Michael Arnold, Montana; two daughters, Teresa Sutton and husband Justin, Plumerville, and Amanda Allread, Oppelo; three brothers, Ricky Arnold and wife Debi, Plumerville, Terry Arnold, Center Ridge, and Jackie Arnold and wife JoAnn, Pangburn; and two sisters, Oleta Lockard, Horseshoe Bend, and Brenda Pace and husband Freddie, St. Louis.

Graveside memorial service was Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Caney Valley Cemetery with Ken Buck officiating. Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton had charge of arrangements.

Thomas Andrew Bettick

Thomas Andrew Bettick, 50, of Smithville, died Aug. 24, 2015, at Regional Health One in Memphis.

Born Feb. 8, 1965, in Skokomish, Wash., he was a longtime resident of Akron, Ohio, before moving to Lawrence County. He was a carpenter and was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife, Rickie Bettick; three sons, Josh Foster, Leroy Osburn and Harvey Osburn; three daughters, Samantha Dies, Marie Terry and Blair Osburn; his parents, Andrew and Jacqueline Bettick; a brother, Vong Doan; and 14 grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held. House-Gregg Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Chris Hibbs

Chris Hibbs, 37, of Walnut Ridge, died Aug. 29, 2015, in Memphis.

Born Feb. 24, 1978, in Jonesboro, he was a carpenter and was of the Baptist belief.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Sonny and Faye Cunningham; and a grandfather, Marvin Hibbs.

Survivors include a son, Walker Hibbs, of the home; a daughter, Max Hibbs, of the home; his parents, Roger and Debbie Cunningham Hibbs, Walnut Ridge; a brother, Matt Hibbs, Walnut Ridge; and a grandmother, Marcelle Hibbs, Walnut Ridge.

Funeral was Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Cox Funeral Home with Rev. Doran Gregory officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Jeremy Cunningham, Shane Cunningham, Seth Schmidt, Larry Willfond, Brian Dodd and J.R. Stovall.

William Lloyd Johnson

William Lloyd Johnson, 71, of Walnut Ridge, died Aug. 28, 2015, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born Dec. 31, 1943, in Pocahontas, he was a longtime resident of Lawrence County and was of the Church of Christ belief. He served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division and was a retired factory worker.

He was preceded in death by a son, Roy Clark Johnson; his parents, Roy and Maxine Barr Johnson; and a brother, Tom Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Jenice Kinder Johnson; four sons, Billy Albro, Danny Albro, Troy Johnson and Phillip Nelson; five daughters, Tammy Williams and husband Mark, Collette Deville, Cheryl Kay Albro, Carmen Davidson and Kimberlie Patterson and husband Keith; a brother, Kenneth Red Johnson; and several grandchildren.

Funeral was Tuesday at 11 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Rob Combs officiating. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery at Pocahontas.

Sandra Lester

Sandra Lester, 62, of Walnut Ridge, died Aug. 26, 2015, at her home.

Born Oct. 25, 1952, in Memphis, she was a nurse and was of the Protestant belief.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Stella Mae Stricklin Littlejohn; a brother, a half-brother and a half-sister.

Survivors include a son, Jason Littlejohn, Walnut Ridge; a half-sister, Cleyon Napier, Savannah, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Destinee Landreth, Tracy Littlejohn and Delaney Wright.

Gwen McAlpin

Gwendolyn Darlene McAlpin, 56, of Walnut Ridge, died Aug. 28, 2015, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born Sept. 29, 1958, in Elgin, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Albert and Rosa Lee Johns McAlpin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Kirkpatrick; and a brother, Lester McAlpin.

Survivors include three brothers, Alfred McAlpin, Alicia, Daniel McAlpin, Pocahontas, and John Chancellor, Walnut Ridge; three sisters, Esther Kurtz, Monticello, Martha Wilburn, Walnut Ridge, and Lena Norman, Marshall, Texas.

Funeral was Monday at 7 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Josh Dement officiating. Burial was Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery at Campbell, Mo.

Keith McCrackin

Keith McCrackin, 88, of Strawberry, died Aug. 28, 2015, at his home.

Born Oct. 18, 1926, at Jesup, he was the son of Delzo and Hettie Mullen McCrackin. He was a World War II Army veteran and worked for Midwest Lime Company in Batesville for many years. He was of the Methodist faith.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Coy McCrackin and J.D. McCrackin; and a sister, Louise McCrackin.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Gracie King McCrackin; two sons, Neil McCrackin, Port Varre, La., and Dennie McCrackin, Harrison; a daughter, Malinda Head, Batesville; a brother, Mylza McCrackin, Marshall; a sister, Genevee Green, Batesville; three grandchildren, Yvonne Doyle, Adam King and Kimberly Carpenter; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Monday at 2 p.m. at Qualls Funeral Home in Cave City. Burial was in Mount View Cemetery, east of Cave City.

Pallbearers were Adam King, Michael Mobley, Brandon Doyle, Jimmy King, Robert King and Rob Cook.

Betty Gane Price

Betty Gane Price, 72, of Hoxie, died Aug. 25, 2015, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 4, 1943, in Marion, she was a retired punch press operator and was of the Baptist belief.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Price; her parents, Delbert and Adie May Taylor Craig; and two sisters, Dorothy Cowart and Darlene Bennett.

Survivors include a son, Darrell Price and wife Theresa, Hoxie; a sister, Delores Kirk, Rockford, Ill.; two grandsons, Michael Price and Jason Price, both of Hoxie; a great-granddaughter, Emilie Price, Hoxie; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral was Friday at noon at Bryan Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Hart officiating. Burial was in Trinity Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jeff Price, Joey Price, Shane Price, Ned Kirk, Justin Kirk and Sam Cowart.

Danny R. Purifoy

Danny R. Purifoy, 80, of Indianapolis, died Aug. 24, 2015.

Born Dec. 23, 1934, he was the son of Charles Frank and Arlena A. Manus Purifoy. He graduated from Newport High School in 1953. He worked in retail management and as a merchandise buyer for Walmart and other large retail scores for over 40 years. He and his family lived in Walnut Ridge from 1973 to 1977, during which time he opened and managed the Walmart store.

He and his wife Joyce operated Fairfield Florist for 22 years, retiring in 2001. After retirement, he was a driver for Shirley Brothers Mortuary for many years. He was a member of Church at the Crossing for over 30 years.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Joyce Adcock Purifoy; four children, Richard Purifoy and wife Melanie, Pamela Frank and husband Doug, David M. Purifoy and wife Cindy, and Lorin D. Purifoy; a brother, Frank Purifoy and wife Elva; twin sisters, Jacque Proctor and Josie Dean and husband Norman; nine grandchildren, Trevor Purifoy, Dustin Hirth, Austin Frank, Brooke Alvarado, Katherine Purifoy, Erin Frank, Emily Purifoy, Cameron Frank and Sydney Frank; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral was Friday at 7 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel in Indianapolis.

Memorials may be made to Church at the Crossing and/or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Dan Roach

Audie Daniel "Dan" Roach, 56, of Walnut Ridge, died Aug. 29, 2015, at the Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis.

Born Nov. 5, 1958, he was a lifelong resident of Walnut Ridge and was of the Baptist belief. He worked in the maintenance department at Westside Consolidated Schools.

He was preceded in death by his father, a brother and his grandparents.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Margie Roach; a son, Zac Roach, Los Angeles; a daughter, Hannah Roach Stacy and husband Mark, Jonesboro; his mother, Barbara Wells, Eaton; four brothers; and three sisters.

A memorial service was held Monday at 6:30 p.m. at First Free Will Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge. Private burial was under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Joshua Aaron Sharar

Joshua Aaron Sharar, 31, of Marble Hill, Mo., died Aug. 29, 2015, in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Born July 13, 1984, in Waukon, Iowa, he lived most of his life in Lawrence County. He was a 2003 graduate of WRHS.

He was preceded in death by a son, Austin Lee Sharar; and a sister, Stephanie Ann Sharar.

Survivors include his parents, Bruce and Peggy Harrington Sharar; a sister, Stacie Osborn and husband Asa; a brother, Luke Sharar; grandparents, Fred and Lorraine Harrington and Norman and Xanta Sharar; and a special friend, Vickie Williams.

Funeral is today at 1 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with David Morse officiating. Burial will be in Powhatan Cemetery.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Samuel Harrington, Joseph Reinertson, Amos Flack, Tim Flack, David Flack, John Hays, Kevin Price and Jeremia Price. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Price and Daniel Price.

John Cameron Starr

John Cameron Starr passed away June 28, 2014. Cremation followed.

He was born in Hoxie on March 15, 1931, to John C. and Alma Erwin Starr and moved with his family to Arizona when he was seven years old. His ties to Arkansas remained with his grandmothers, Emma Starr of Imboden and Nadine Erwin (Wayland) of Hoxie.

He attended the University of Arizona and served in the U.S. Army. John spent most of his adult life in the Washington D.C. area, but returned to Arizona in 1993 to be close to his sister.

He leaves behind: his son, John Cameron Miller (Kathryn); two grandsons, Grider William and Moses Winston Miller; and sister Jill Sotelo; along with several nieces and nephews.

John’s ashes will be buried at the gravesite of his parents in Lawrence Memorial Park on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. Graveside services will be held.

Margie Wyatt

Margie Lajune Jones Wyatt, 89, of Paragould, died Aug. 29, 2015, at her home.

Born March 28, 1926, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Martin Jones and Mae Howard. She was retired from AMMC.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom W. Wyatt; two sisters, Grace Belew and Inez Powell; and a brother, Gary Jones.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Junca, Jonesboro; two sons, Eldon Wyatt and wife Terry, Jonesboro, and O’Neil Wyatt, High Ridge, Mo.; a sister, Laverne Taylor, Kansas City, Kan.; eight grandchildren, Tahnya Price, Melanie Stitt, Amanda Waln, Don Wyatt, Troy Wyatt, Keith Wyatt, Jessica McCartha and Martin Wyatt; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Thursday at 11 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Price, Blake Price, Caleb Price, Justin Waln, Mike Stitt, Don Wyatt and Parker Waln.
