Early voting begins Tuesday
The early voting period for the annual school election will begin on Tuesday, according to County Clerk Tina Stowers.
Hillcrest, Hoxie and Lawrence County (Walnut Ridge and Black Rock) districts are conducting their elections solely through early and absentee voting because there are no contested school board races in those districts. Sloan-Hendrix is the only district with a race and thus the only district with polls open on Election Day, Sept. 15.
The last day to vote early or absentee is on Monday, Sept. 14. Absentee voting ballots are available by calling the county clerk's office at 886-1111 during business hours.
Patrons of the Sloan-Hendrix School District can vote early or on Election Day, with polls open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Imboden Community Center or the Ravenden Community Center.
The board race in Sloan-Hendrix School District is between Shane Dail of Ravenden, the incumbent, and Wade Spence of Imboden.
The unopposed candidates are as follows:
Hillcrest - Incumbent Craig Whitmire of Strawberry, Zone 4 position.
Hoxie - Danny Kopp. (The position is currently held by Michael Hart of Sedgwick, who did not file for re-election.)
Lawrence County School District - D. Clay Sloan of Walnut Ridge for the remaining three-year term of Keith Brand, who passed away in May, and incumbents Greg Gill of Walnut Ridge and Pat A. Roby of Black Rock, for their respective board positions.
Unless specified, school board terms are for a five-year period.
