Grants awarded to replace
low-water bridges in LawCo.

Lawrence County Office of Emergency Services recently received a letter stating two mitigation grants applied for in late May have been awarded to the county.

The grants will be used to fund two low-water bridge replacements, one on Lawrence Road 203 in Imboden and the other on Lawrence 267 in Smithville.

Both of these low-water crossings are prone to flooding and can trap residents for hours and sometime days.

The estimated total cost of both projects is $99,474.96. The projects can be started on at any time, but must be completed by March 1, 2016, to comply with the grant.

"The proposals were written by my office and submitted to the Arkansas Department Of Emergency Management for funding consideration. We were very excited to receive these to help cover the projects," Buddy Williams, Lawrence County OES director, said.

County Judge Dale Freeman also stated that the county would continue to apply for these mitigation grants as they become available for future projects in Lawrence County.
