Anna Shelby Harpole

Robby and Jessica Harpole of Bay have announced the birth of a daughter, born Aug. 15, 2015, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed six pounds, 13 ounces, and has been named Anna Shelby Harpole. She has an older brother, Reece, four.

Grandparents are James and LaDonna McMasters of Bay and Bob and Cathy Harpole of Imboden.

Great-grandparents are Bill and Sharon McMasters of Bay, Jessie McCanless of Trumann, and Ann Ladd and Christine Harpole, both of Corning.

Robert Lee McGaha V

Rusty and Missy McGaha of Jonesboro have announced the birth of a son, born Aug. 13, 2015, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed six pounds, seven ounces, and has been named Robert Lee McGaha V. He has two brothers, Layne Ditto, 18, and Jett Ditto, 14.

Grandparents are Robert and Glenda McGaha of Jonesboro and David and Darla McEntire of Walnut Ridge.

Great-grandmother is Juanita Tolson of Walnut Ridge.

Luther ~ Harris

Scott and Debbie Luther of Paragould have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Alesha Nichole Luther, to John Bailey Harris, son of Terry Harris of Paragould and Cindy Marshall of Jonesboro.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Larry Luther of Hoxie, Berline Luther of Conway and Barbara Woodson of Walnut Ridge and the late Charles "Porky" Woodson.

She is a 2012 graduate of Greene County Tech High School and is employed as a co-manager of Sonic in Paragould.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Tim and Margaret Tyler of Jonesboro, Larry and Doris Steakley of Lepanto and the late John and Deloris Harris.

He is a 2011 graduate of Greene County Tech High School and works in the farming industry.

The couple will exchange vows Saturday, Aug. 22, at 4 p.m. at the Silos in Bono.

All family and friends are invited to attend the ceremony and the following reception.

Leland Carl Baney

Leland Carl Baney, 74, of Cave City, died Aug. 16, 2015, at his home.

Born May 15, 1941, in Walnut Ridge, he was a retired farmer and was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Cave City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dollie Ferguson Baney; two brothers, Maxie Baney and Walter Baney; four sisters, Bonnie Hubbard, Sarah Floyd, Mary Sue Baney and an infant sister; and a son-in-law, Sgt. Jeff Richardson.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lourine Baney; three sons, Billy Joe Baney and wife Tina, Jonesboro, Jimmy Wayne Baney, Cave City, and Bobby Joe "Bo" Baney and wife Wilma, Pocahontas; four daughters, Dollie A. Baney, Ash Flat, Linda Kay Richardson Carter and husband Dwayne, Sulphur Rock, Barbara Tesch and husband Doyle, Topeka, Kan., and Polly Hernandez, Batesville; three brothers, Charles Baney, Cherry Valley, James Alfred Baney, Harrisburg, and Alvin Baney, Cherokee Village; five sisters, Mary Austin, Jonesboro, Mildred Woods, Michigan, and Pauline Roberson, Velma Floyd and Melissa Davis, all of Trumann; 17 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral is today at 10 a.m. at First Free Will Baptist Church in Cave City with Bro. Bill Sagely officiating. Burial will be in Cave City Cemetery under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be James Baney Jr., Zachary Baney, Sean Shannon, Corey Shannon, John Ables and Robert Cheshier. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Loretta Crow

Leddie Loretta Hart Crow, 82, of Walnut Ridge, passed away early Saturday morning, Aug. 15, 2015, in her home.

Born Aug. 3, 1933, in Knobel, she was the daughter of Earnest Everette and Pearly May Laroe Hart. She was united in marriage to Patrick Henry Crow on Dec. 22, 1951. She was a homemaker and a seamstress, retiring from the L.M. Company. She was a member of the Cache River Pentecostal Church in Sedgwick.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Patrick Henry Crow; a daughter, Patsy Moore; and a sister, Edwina Moore of Hoxie.

Survivors include a daughter, Henrietta (Stanley) Williams of Walnut Ridge; daughter/granddaughter, Michelle (Bret) Sheets of Walnut Ridge, granddaughter, Tina (Tommy) Crum of Sedgwick; three grandsons, Joseph (Lural) Williams, Andy Williams and Donnie Russell, all of Walnut Ridge; one great-granddaughter, Lydia Sheets of Walnut Ridge; five great-grandsons, Dylan Sheets and Jacob Williams, both of Walnut Ridge, and Tommy, Matt and Josh Crum, all of Sedgwick; two sisters, Linda Watson of Walnut Ridge, and Shirley Brannon of Navarre, Fla.; three brothers, Gilbert Hart of Hoxie, Everett Hart of Walnut Ridge, and Charles Hart of Rockford, Ill.; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral was Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Everette and Rick Hart officiating. Burial was in the Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Joseph and Andrew Williams, Dylan Sheets, Ronnie Hart, Jim Brandon, Donnie Russell and Bryan Butts.

Christopher Todd Davis

Christopher Todd Davis, 47, of Marion, died Aug. 13, 2015, at his home.

Born April 22, 1968, in West Memphis, he was an electrician. He was a member of IBEW-474 and Cypress Creek Church of the Nazarene.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Kathleen Holder Davis.

Survivors include his father, Franklin Davis, Marion; a brother, Michael Davis and wife Leona, Shallowater, Texas; a sister, Karen Davis, Marion; two nieces, Krista Street, Marion, and Cynthia Davis, Shallowater, Texas; a nephew, Nathanael Davis, Shallowater, Texas; a great-nephew; and a grand-niece.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Cypress Creek Church of the Nazarene in West Memphis with Rev. Sara Scott officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Joseph Edward Johnson

Joseph Edward Johnson, 66, of Portia, died Aug. 15, 2015, in Jonesboro.

Born June 30, 1949, in Jonesboro, he was a lifelong resident of Portia. He worked for the Hoxie Street Department and was a member of the Hoxie Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Mae Kincade Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Johnson; a son, Joe Johnson and wife Stephanie; two daughters, Penny Staal and husband Chris, and Savannah Thacker and husband Barry; a sister, Shirley Douglas and husband Darrell; his brother and best friend, James Duke Davis; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Friday at 10 a.m. at the Portia Church of Christ with Robert Davis officiating. Burial will be in Austin Cemetery under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation is Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Theresa Malmay

Theresa Malmay, 53, of Black Rock, died Aug. 14, 2015, at her home.

Born Feb. 8, 1962, in Louisiana, she lived in Mooringsport, La., before moving to Lawrence County in 1995. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist belief.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Miller; a grandmother, Nanny Miller; and a grandfather, Pete Ashby.

Survivors include her husband, Rod Malmay; two daughters, Stacy Nunally and Abby Furgeison, both of Black Rock; a son, Phillip Terry, Cave City; her mother, Shirley LaCoss, Black Rock; four sisters, Robbie Furgeison, Shelly Kiasen, Stephanie Hedges and Nancy Miller, all of Black Rock; and three granddaughters, Danielle Beary, Sara Beary and Reagan Nunally.

Funeral is Friday at 10 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Rick Anglin officiating. Burial will be in Powhatan Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday from 5:30-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Josh Walker, Colton Miller, Zach Smith, Robert Miller Jr., Kenney Medlock and Tony Furgeison.

Jeremy Tavis Moore

Jeremy Tavis Moore, 44, of Calico Rock, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died Aug. 12, 2015, in Calico Rock.

Born July 26, 1971, in Grand Blanc, Mich., he worked in construction.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Dale Moore.

Survivors include a daughter, Ariel Moore, Paragould; his mother and stepfather, Jane and Charles Goodman, Calico Rock; a brother, Jeffrey Moore, Jonesboro; a sister, Jennifer Brasher and husband Tim, Milwaukee; a half-brother, Luke Luster, Jonesboro; and a grandson, Brantley Matheny.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Eddie’s Family Funeral Home of Calico Rock has charge of arrangements.

John W. Wood

John W. "Bill" Wood, age 84 of Harrison, passed away Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015, at home after a long illness.

He was a longtime Harrison businessman, moving there in 1971 to start Bill Wood Chevrolet. In 1984, he added Nissan and changed the name to Wood Motor Company. In 1991, he along with his sons, started Wood Development, Inc., a hospitality and real estate development company which owns and operates the Quality Inn, Holiday Inn and Hampton Inn in Harrison along with other commercial real estate ventures.

The son of Sam and Ruby (Prewitt) Wood was born on Oct. 11, 1930, at Egypt. He attended Hoxie High School, where he met his wife, Margaret. They were married in 1950 in Memphis.

After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he started his career in the automobile business at Hull-Dobbs Ford as an oil change technician, and worked his way up to the sales floor. In 1957, he opened his own used car dealership, which he operated until 1971 when he moved his family to Harrison to open Bill Wood Chevrolet.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 49 years, Margaret; his sisters, Roberta and Mae; and brothers, Howard and Jerry.

He is survived by his wife, Carole Higgason Wood; her children, Amy Murray (Shon) of Harrison, and Michael Higgason (Kathy) of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; her grandchildren, Tanner and Easton Taylor of Harrison, and Paden Higgason of Memphis; his sons, Steve Wood and Phillip Wood (Sharon) of Harrison; granddaughters, Jessica and her husband Chip Johnson of Dallas, and Lacey Beauchamp of Fayetteville.

Pallbearers are Mark Hanshaw, Jim Yates, Wayne Roberts, Jerry Pinson, Steve Pederson and Tanner Taylor. Honorary pallbearers are Rhonda Spurlin, Sasha Tew, Lorene Roberts, Dr. John Martinez, Dr. Dwight Zabel and the staff of Harrison Dialysis Clinic, and the Branson Dialysis Home Department.

Funeral was Saturday, Aug. 15, at 1 p.m. at Coffman Funeral Home Chapel in Harrison with Calvin Gambrell officiating. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery. Arrangements were by Coffman Funeral Home of Harrison.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Hills in Harrison.
