Children's Shelter event raises
$22,500, Cavenaugh honored

The Children's Shelter Summer Gala has become an annual event that offers a fun evening in support of a worthwhile cause. This year's event, held Thursday night at The Studio, was one of the best and most successful with approximately 183 tickets sold.

The event raised $22,500 for The Shelter, and offered great food, entertainment and auction items in an extraordinary setting. Mel Fender and her staff catered the dinner, the Vikki McGee Band provided music and Ronnie "Frog" Light served as auctioneer.

SouthBuild Team to visit
county, develop jail plan

The SouthBuild Team, an architecture firm tasked with developing a plan for a new county jail, will be in Lawrence County for several days to determine structure size, layout and cost estimates, Sheriff Jeff Yates reported at Monday night's Quorum Court meeting.

WR Airport Commission
accepts concrete work bid

A special Walnut Ridge Airport Commission meeting was called Tuesday, Aug. 4, to approve a bid for concrete work to be done at the airport. Commissioners accepted the low bid of $593,000 from Clark General Contractors, Inc. of Walnut Ridge.
