Lawrence County Fair is next week

The 91st annual Lawrence County Fair and Livestock Shows will be held next week, Monday through Saturday, Aug. 15.

The new barn will be ready for those participating in the livestock shows, according to Fair Board Member James Ratliff.

Ratliff said the barn, which will have a total cost of approximately $35,000, is being paid for in large part through grant funds.

Firm selected for new county jail

A special Lawrence County Quorum Court meeting was called Thursday to select an architecture firm for the new county jail project.

In a 6-3 vote, justices selected the SouthBuild Team to draw up the plans for the jail.

Tax-delinquent properties
collect $12,000 for county

The recent auction of tax-delinquent properties in Lawrence County collected more than $12,000 for county and state government, the commissioner of state lands announced.
