Accidents claim lives
Two fatal crashes occurred last week in the Lawrence County area and claimed the lives of Shannon Rainwater, 39, of Strawberry, and Danny Welsh, 42, of Grubbs.
The first accident, which claimed the life of the Strawberry resident, occurred on Tuesday, July 14, at 10:25 p.m.
According to the Arkansas State Police preliminary fatal crash summary, Rainwater was driving a Dodge truck west on Hwy. 230 in Sharp County, near the Lawrence County line.
The report states that Rainwater's vehicle crossed the centerline into the northbound lane and overturned. He was ejected.
The other fatality occurred at 6:44 a.m. on Friday, as Welsh was driving a 2006 Chevy HHR south on Hwy. 91 and crossed the centerline hitting a 2007 Dodge Charger head-on. Madalyn Manus, 19, of Walnut Ridge was driving the Charger.
Welsh died at the scene, and Manus, who is 20 weeks pregnant, was airlifted to Regional Medical Center at Memphis where she is recovering from her injuries.
In addition, a Bono woman with connections to Lawrence County was killed in a train crash Monday at 2:19 p.m. at the intersection of Hwy. 63 and Craighead County Road 341.
According to state police, Terry A. Nelson, 51, failed to stop at the railroad crossing and pulled in front of a southbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train. The Hoxie Fire Department provided assistance to the Bono Fire Department. Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene.
