Decker appointed to
Hoxie City Council
The Hoxie City Council appointed a new member at the July 14 meeting to fill the vacancy left by alderman Rickey Mayland, who moved to Portia.
Hoxie citizens Greg Coats, Jerry Decker and Danny Kopp Sr. each spoke briefly about how they would serve the city as alderman. After holding an executive session, Mayor Lanny Tinker announced that Decker would fill the vacant position with a 3-2 vote being cast among the aldermen.
TCF approaches Walnut Ridge
The local chapter of The Compassionate Friends spoke at Monday's Walnut Ridge City Council meeting with a proposal to build and maintain a memorial garden at Stewart Park near the fire pit.

Accidents claim lives
Two fatal crashes occurred last week in the Lawrence County area and claimed the lives of Shannon Rainwater, 39, of Strawberry, and Danny Welsh, 42, of Grubbs.
WR works to patch roads
Walnut Ridge has made a recent push to repair potholes, unevenness and other road problems in the city.
The original plan focuses on downtown Walnut Ridge first, then work would begin on the road approaches around the highways. The northeast section of town would be worked on next, moving outward from Stewart Park. After that, the south side of town will be worked on starting around the school.
