Jamey and Natalie Wilson of Jonesboro have announced the birth of their first child, a son, born July 3, 2015, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed eight pounds, three ounces, and has been named Chandler Drew Wilson.

Grandparents are Dave and Shenna Wilson of Pocahontas and Bruce and Kelley Manning of Walnut Ridge.

He is the great-grandson of Earl and Melba Crawford of Pocahontas, Zola and Jay Beary of Hoxie and James Manning of Walnut Ridge.


Tesh ~ Kellett

Scott and Sharon Tesh of Advance, N.C., announce the engagement of their daughter, Lauren Caitlen Tesh to Keenan James Kellett, son of Jim and Darla Kellett of Trumann.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Ortie and Patsy Boyd of Mocksville, N.C., and Doris Tesh of Helenwood, Tenn., and the late Terry Tesh.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Joe and Wanda Stone of Smithville and Everett Kellett of Ravenden Springs and the late Faye Kellett.

Following an Aug. 1, 2015, wedding at Anthony Chapel in Hot Springs, Lauren and Keenan, both recent graduates of Harding University, will reside in Searcy. Lauren teaches third grade at Newport Elementary, and Keenan will teach junior high English in Augusta, as well as join the varsity football coaching staff as the offensive coordinator.

Thompson ~ Tillman

Sarah Beth Thompson and Christopher Drew Tillman have announced their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Effie Louise Thompson of Paragould and the late Hershel Lonnie Thompson.

She is a 2007 graduate of Greene County Tech High School and a 2011 graduate of Arkansas Academy of Hair Design. She is employed as a hair stylist at Sola Salon in Jonesboro.

The prospective groom is the son of Lori Tillman and Chris Tillman, both of Walnut Ridge. He is the grandson of Dewell Tillman and Manon Tillman, both of Walnut Ridge, and the late Bobby Lee and Olivee Williams.

He is a 2006 graduate of Hoxie High School and graduated from the High Voltage Lineman Technology program at Arkansas State University at Newport in 2009. He is employed at Craighead Electric in Jonesboro.

The couple will exchange vows on Aug. 8, 2015, at a private wedding ceremony at the home of Susan Ponder in Imboden.

All family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the private ceremony at the Walnut Ridge Country Club at 7:30 p.m.

Ruth J. Ballard

Ruth Janavery Ballard, 100, of Walnut Ridge, died July 7, 2015, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

Born Feb. 10, 1915, in Alton, Mo., she was the daughter of Henry and Laura Elizabeth Johnson Risenhoover. She worked as a sales clerk at Van-Atkins and Sterling, and was of the Methodist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ollen Ballard; two sisters, Ruby Johnson and Bernice Kimbrough; and a grandson, Lance O. Ballard.

Survivors include a daughter, Vada Ruth Smith, Jonesboro; two sons, Jerry J. Ballard, Walnut Ridge, and Tony O. Ballard, Hallsville, Mo.; a brother, Harold Risenhoover, Williamston, Mich.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Saturday at 10 a.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Revs. Jeanne Williams and Gary Wiles officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Steve Graham, Josh Graham, Jerry Ballard II, Andrew Ballard, Josh Ballard, Lee Holmes and Lee David Holmes Jr.

Virginia Louise Collar

Virginia Louise Collar, 86, of Black Rock, formerly of Elizabeth, Ark., passed away July 8, 2015, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 9, 1928, in Jennings, Mo., she was the daughter of Delose and Nannie Denton Kreis. She was a wife and a homemaker, and a member of First Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge, and the Elizabeth Baptist Church in Elizabeth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oliver Carl Collar, whom she married Nov. 3, 1956; a daughter, Lea Ann Bowers; a brother, Bill Kreis; and two sisters, Anne Williams and Ollie Cunningham.

Survivors include a son, Steve Collar and wife Debra, Jonesboro; three daughters, Regina Brewer and husband Rick, Black Rock, Ellen Guthrie, Portia, and Janna Quillian and husband Pat, Alpharetta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Chad and Brad Brewer, and Jessica and Anna Bowers; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, River, Andrew and Karlee Brewer; a brother, John Kreis and wife Dorothy, Plumerville; a sister-in-law, Jean Collar, Little Rock; a son-in-law, John Bowers, Collierville, Tenn.; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral was Sunday at 3 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Wise officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Chad, Brad and Rick Brewer, Pat Quillian, John Williams, Darrell Cunningham, and Jessica and Anna Bowers. Interment will follow in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Charles Douglas Dement

Charles Douglas Dement, 72, of Pocahontas, formerly of Lawrence County, died July 12, 2015, at Randolph County Nursing Home.

Born Jan. 7, 1943, at Egypt, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, and electrician and a Christian.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo "Lonie" and Mary Parnell McElroy Dement; a brother, Ed Dement; and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Dement.

Survivors include two sons, David Dement and wife Lisa, Imboden, and Matthew Dement and wife Stephanie, Mountain Home; two daughters, Tamela Dement, Joplin, Mo., and Wendy Wyatt and husband Mark, Athens, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Marlene Dement; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held today at 10 a.m. at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at Birdeye. Bryan Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Lloyd Eugene Dobbs

Lloyd Eugene Dobbs, 85, of Hustonville, Ky., went to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, July 7, 2015.

Born March 27, 1930, he was the son of the late Jerald Homer and Eula Preston Dobbs. Lloyd was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church and a current member of Junction City United Methodist Church in Junction City, Ky. He was retired from Jonathan Logan, where he worked for 27 years. He enjoyed gardening, loved Ford vehicles and telling stories of the "past".

He is survived by his wife, Sue Smith Dobbs; one son, Stephen (Cecilia) Dobbs of Harrodsburg, Ky.; two daughters, Nancy Ann (Wayne) Watts of Science Hill, Ky., and Charlette (Dale) Daffron of Jonesboro; two stepsons, Eric (Kim) Stine of Perry County, Ky., and Tim Stine of Casey County, Ky.; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral was Friday at 11 a.m. at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Hustonville with pastor Chad Brandt, Rev. Wayne Watts and Jason Warnick officiating. Burial was in Moreland Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Michael Stewart, Daniel Dobbs, Matthew East, Josh Brown, Tim Stine, Derek Moore and Eric Stine. Honorary pallbearers were the Wisemen of Junction City UMC.

Bill Kysar

William Hershel "Bill" Kysar, 81, of Walnut Ridge, died July 7, 2015, at his home.

Born Sept. 27, 1933, in Gatewood, Mo., he was the son of Willie Kysar and Stella McGonigal Busby.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Jim Busby.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Floy Hodges Kysar; a daughter, Shirley Hudson and husband Terry; two grandchildren, Sarah Hudson and Michael Hudson; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Friday at 2 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Lloyd Clark and Don House officiating. Burial was in Strangers Home Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Dent, Densil Brown, Doug Arnold, Tim Hodges, Tony Hudson and Jamie Haigwood. Honorary pallbearers were James Taylor, Donnie Davidson and Stanley Corbett.

Wanda Vaughn

Wanda Lee Rice Vaughn, 89, of Jonesboro, formerly of Delaplaine, went to be with our Lord on July 10, 2015, at her home.

She is survived by many relatives and friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. She was born June 10, 1926.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Vaughn of 64 years; parents, Thomas Lee Rice and Samantha Getson Rice; her grandparents, Jack and Rachel Getson and Susan Dalton Rice.

Mrs. Vaughn was a graduate of Stephens College and Arkansas State University. She also attended Oklahoma University. She was a retired teacher, having served in the Delaplaine and Hoxie school system, where she taught English, Speech, and Drama.

For a short time, she taught Drama at Williams Baptist College. She also wrote and directed the outdoor dramas "Mother of Counties" for Lawrence County and "The Heritage Trail" and "The Crowley's Ridge Story" for Greene County. At one time she was a member of the Greene County Library Board, Delta Kappa Gamma teachers' sorority, and the Arkansas State University Foundation.

Funeral service was conducted at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro on Monday, July 13, 2015, at 2 p.m. by Arliss Dickerson, preceded by a period of visitation for family and friends from 1 p.m. until service time. Eulogists were Rev. Warner Allen and Charlotte Rogers Myers.

Pallbearers were Steve May, Fred Schmidt, Keith Mosbey, Frank Rice, Jim Finley and Jack French. Honorary pallbearers were Garland Gilmore, Bill Lovelady, members of the Hoxie High School Class of 1966, members of the Arliss Dickerson Adult Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, Tom Waldron, Angie Schmidt, Debbie Schmidt, Cathy and Bill Caldwell, Pam and Joe Clay Young, Robert and Mary Poe Ascione, Jerry Gladden, Rick Myers, Tom and Darlene Moore, Robert Norvell, Robert Jones, Scot Snodgrass, Donald Guinn, and Paul and Gail Osborn. Music was provided by Darlene Moore. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens in Paragould.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis or the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society of Jonesboro.

Rhonda Kay Whitlow

Rhonda Kay Whitlow, 43, of Strawberry, died July 10, 2015, at her home.

Born Nov. 4, 1971, in Hart, Mich., she was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Whitlow.

Survivors include two sons, Donnie Whitlow and Dakota Whitlow, both of Strawberry; her parents, Ronald and Judy Reed O'Dell; two sisters, Tonia Bauer, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Cynthia Husebo, Daytona, Fla.; and a brother, Ronnie O'Dell, Gibston, Fla.
