School filings end with one race
The one-week filing period for school board candidates ended at noon Tuesday and resulted in one race in the county.
The incumbent at Sloan-Hendrix School, Shane Dail of Ravenden, filed for re-election, and he will be in a race with challenger Wade Spence of Imboden for the board seat.
Sloan-Hendrix will be the only school district with polls open for the School Election on Tuesday, Sept. 15. The other school districts with unopposed candidates will be able to conduct their elections through absentee and early voting only, said County Clerk Tina Stowers.
The unopposed candidates are listed below. Unless specified, terms are for a five-year period.
Incumbent Craig Whitmire of Strawberry has filed for re-election to the Hillcrest School Board, Zone 4 position.
Danny Kopp has filed for election to the Hoxie School Board. The position is currently held by Michael Hart of Sedgwick, who did not file for re-election.
Three positions on the Lawrence County School District (Walnut Ridge and Black Rock consolidated) are up for election.
As announced last week, D. Clay Sloan of Walnut Ridge filed for the remaining three-year term of Keith Brand, who passed away in May.
In addition, incumbents Greg Gill of Walnut Ridge and Pat A. Roby of Black Rock have each filed as unopposed candidates for their respective board positions.
