Earn baseball honors
Three high school baseball players from Lawrence County have received postseason honors following the 2015 season.
Layne Ditto and Will Weir of Walnut Ridge, and Brody Raby of Hoxie were named to the 2015 Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Three Rivers Edition All-Area Baseball Team.
Ditto, who was a senior in 2015, was also named Player of the Year on the All-Area Team. The Bobcat pitcher compiled a 9-2 record with a 1.93 earned run average. He recorded 117 strikeouts, while walking only 16 batters.
At the plate, Ditto batted .435 and had an on-base percentage of .544. He had 10 doubles, 27 RBIs and scored 39 runs. He is the son of Missy Ditto of Jonesboro and Steve Ditto of Hoxie.
Weir, a sophomore for the Bobcats, finished with a 9-1 record on the mound, with a 1.33 ERA. He had 74 strikeouts and 16 walks. Offensively, Weir hit .451, with an on-base percentage of .514. He slugged 13 doubles and two triples, while driving in 28 runs. He is the son of Allen and Martha Weir of Walnut Ridge.
Raby finished with a .580 batting average for the Mustangs last season. The junior also had seven doubles and 16 RBIs. He is the son of Barry and Charlene Raby of Hoxie. Best Under the Sun
Ditto and Weir were also named to the Best Under The Sun team by The Jonesboro Sun. Ditto was recognized as a pitcher and Weir was named as a utility player.
Two other players named to the Best Under The Sun team also have Lawrence County connections.
Jordan Volner, a Nettleton High junior this past season, is the grandson of Hoxie Mayor Lanny and Lida Tinker.
Sam Rainwater, a Jonesboro High School 2015 graduate, is the grandson of Robert H. Rainwater of Walnut Ridge, the late Patty Rainwater, Charlotte Spikes of Pocahontas and the late Jonathan "Butch" Eskridge.
